Hello, I am about to live in a mobile home. We will be living and travelling through out NZ. I am a visual artist and I need to be able to upload and download video works. I am currently using a Huawei wireless broadband stick on a Telecom prepay sim at $30 for 1GB of data this is getting extremely expensive.

I have enquired with the major broadband providers to see if they have any other options but so far I have not been able to find anything. Most require a fixed line.

I was wondering if anyone knew any other solutions?

If you're don't have a fixed location then mobile broadband is your only option.

You'll just need to decide between 2degrees/Vodafone/Telecom (& Skinny) who offers the best deal to suit you.

If you're mobile is with Telecom, on some monthly packs or contracts you can connect your laptop to use the Free w-fi 1GB a day at lots of phone boxes around the country. http://www.telecom.co.nz/contactus/storefinder/#!/freeWifi/

If you are uploading and downloading video then all of the options will be expensive.. the 2degrees $50 for 3GB pack might be cheapest. http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/prepay/pricing/plus/value-packs/data-packs

Have you looked at the Skinny Data sims which are only available from Harvey Normans. I think you can get 10GB for $120.00 with 6 months to use. I have the 2 degrees mobile broadband zone pack which is 12GB for $99.00 with 6 months to use. as this is only available in 2 degrees broadband zones and not when roaming on Vodafone its probably not going to be suitable though.

Using the Telecom Wifi hotspots is gonna be your cheapest option by far. $9.95 a month for 30GB @1GB per day. Not exactly completely mobile but they're spread fairly well throughout the country so you should never be too far away from one.

Sending (large amounts of) video via mobile broadband ain't gonna be cheap!
