I m thinking to set up a website to sell stuff in NZ. Which suffix is better? www.something.com or www.something.co.nz

.co.nz
If I shop online, I prefer .co.nz as it gives a bit more assurance it is NZ based & currency is in NZ dollars. This obviously does not mean that any .co.nz site is actually safe; whether a dot com or a dot co nz or a dot whatever, always buyer beware.

Another one for .co.nz. When searching for a product, I commonly do a google search with "site:.nz" to restrict it to New Zealand sites.

There's something about having a .com though. I suggest you get both, .com's are rather cheap anyway.

.co.nz if you're selling primarily locally, if nothing else it will help Google rank you when fellow countrymen are searching for your wares.

You could get the .com too, but just make it physically redirect the browser to .co.nz, again to keep Google happy.

Get the .com if you can.

As said above, there is an implied trust, mainly from non tech-savvy people that a .co.nz address is a good sign that you are buying from someone in New Zealand, with NZ currency (even though us folk know the suffix means nothing).

You'll probably find it more likely also to get your wanted domain name.
I tried for a .com but was already taken. Anyhow, be proud, be kiwi and have a .co.nz domain :)

Speaking as someone who's spent the last 3+ years trying to get the .com name for his company's registered name, get both .co.nz and .com - operate under your .co.nz if you are only selling to nz, but at least if you have the .com, if you want to sell worldwide, the .com will look the best.

It's a lot easier to get the .com if it's available now than trying to buy it back later - trust me.

On a side note, if you are going to accept credit cards, a SSL certificate is a must (it appears as a small padlock in the bottom right of your browser, and your address changes and begins with https://)
