As North Shore City rate payer I am astounded the North Shore City Council could spent $60,000 of our funds planting five trees in Bayswater.
You can read about it on www.northshorecitycouncil.net.nz
When will this nonsense ever stop?

The sad truth is that it will never stop.

It will stop as soon as you become part of the Super City. North Shore City Council will not be able to do anything then ;)

Ah but The new Super Sh-ty  will.  If they're anything like the current Auckland CC they seem to think that the rate payer is a bottomless pit of money for them to spend with their grandiose ideas..

Considering the NSCC has gone on record as saying they want to spend their entire cash reserves before the merger so the Super City gets nothing from the people of North Shore, I'm not surprised.

We need more direct democracy.. swiss style. With the web and technology today it should definitely be achievable to call votes on any spending over a certain size from constituents.

Thats as bad as Upper Hutt. Recntly spent over $1 million on new street lights and planter boxes for part of the main street, yet approximately 50% of the shops on it are now empty. The rest of the street hasn't had it's boxes or lights replaced, so it looks bity.  Also spent over $100k on sculptures. They are in desperate need of a new mayor and a new direction, but I can't see the mayor losing his seat due to 2 other cantidates, which will cause a split vote, between those who want change and those who don't.

Did you notice that they planted Kauri trees along Glenfield road on the median just before the mall ? What are they going to do in 20+ years when those trees roots are breaking the median and the road.......

'sif they will last - if you're from the Hutt, they make a big S&D about the new trees, then rip them out after about 5-10 years, replace them with another type of tress (S&D routine again).

Rinse wash repeat...
