Hello,

I've recently arrived to NZ and am currently looking for an internet provider. I've been reading a few bits and pieces and a lot of ISPs mention that theres a $10 excess if you don't have your toll charge with them. I guess this means a land line ?

Keeping in mind I don't intend to get a landline, want to have a download limit of at least 5GB and will be using Skype and MSN video between here and the UK can anyone recommend an ISP.

If you don't want a landline (assuming your in Auckland) then I think your main bet is woosh wireless, i think pretty much all your other possbile options use adsl which needs a landline for.

If you don't want to get a landline, your options are pretty limited unless you happen to live in Wellington or some parts of Christchurch (which have the TelstraClear fibre network available).

So, assuming you are in Auckland or somewhere else than the 2 cities mentioned above, you will need to be looking at a wireless internet connection. The options are:

1) Wired Country as the network via ICONZ as the ISP (this was the best option when I looked last week)
2) Woosh Wireless (both the network provider and an ISP)

Let me know if I've got the right idea as to your location and we can go from there.

Yeah if you are in Wellington or Christchurch then I recommend TelstraClear if you can get their cable. $49.95 will get you 10GB per month and 4Mbps download and 2Mbps upload and you won't need a landline.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all of the replys. I should have been a bit clearer on my original post. I am in Wellington and there is a landline in the apartment that I can use for broadband. I just don't intend to use it for phone calls etc.

With that in mind does this change any of your suggestions ?

Connect up to the TelstraClear cable network as FatTofu has suggested above. It is your best option without a doubt.

Those of us in other centres that don't have access to this network would give their eye teeth to have the choice of cable as you have.

Forget the copper, it's so last century!

Is your apartment located in the CBD? Before you read up and get excited about TelstraClear's cable, make sure you are on their cable network. You can just go into their store in Courtney Central and they can do a quick property check for you.... then give you their sales pitch =)

wow - that Telstraclear offer certainly looks like the way to go. Our rental is in Kelburn so looking at the coverage map I reckon we should be good to go.

If you sign up in store they'll give you a free install and no term contract as opposed to ringing up and having to pay for the install or fixed term contract. The coverage map is pretty broad, their property checks are more specific and it only takes about 30 seconds. They also run other promos in the store as well.

I called them up yesterday to arrange the install and got a free install with a no term contract. Didn't even ask as I didn't know the offer existed. The lass on the end of the phone must have liked my Scottish accent
