Last night I queued up a number of downloads with the download manager ReGet. I use the download manger so that I can schedule them to start during the off-peak time.

In ReGet there is an option to query file size so that you can see how much you will be downloading. I queried the file size for everything that I was going to download and then went to my I-Hug bandwidth quota page to make sure that I had enough left.

The problem was that I-Hug had already dinged me for all that bandwidth usage even though nothing had started to download yet.

I ran the download manager through a logging proxy and found that when it was querying for the file size it was just doing an http head.

Has anyone else seen this behavior and could it be widespread across all ISPs?

Thanks.

I've seen people saying the Ihug traffic accounting hasn't been working properly since last month, you'll more than likely find it's a fault rather than the way their traffic accounting is supposed to work.

very interesting thought.

Ihug have some issues, which I originally posted in Mauricio's TelstraClear says I've used 15,800 gigabytes traffic in a single day thread.

I have logged my issue with Ihug, depending on who I talk to i get some variation stipulating I won't get charged.  Ihug seemed to stipulate they thought the issue was fixed, but I don't believe it is, which I told them.  It only seems to be with peak data, as far as I can see. However they did acknowlege there was an issue, which had affected a few customers.

One e-mail did tell me to call them, and they would reset my data cap, but after calling them, they didn't seem so keen on this.  It doesn't worry me, so I didn't push the issue.

Yes, the ihug usage meter has basically gone mad. See this thread on PCWorld forums and various threads in the ihug.general newsgroup.
