My 2 year broadband contract with Vodafone runs out on Nov 5; early disconnect penalty $299. 

 

Can I enlist the expertise of forum members to advise on what date I should specify as connection date with the new provider in order to be sure that I avoid a penalty?

 

(Planning on changing to 2degrees -- no need for recommendations.)

I too am interested in the finer points of switching fibre ISPs.

 

Is the NewISP start date the same as the last day of contract with the OldISP in order to have continuity of transfer and not have penalties with the old ISP?

I would go 2 days before your next billing cycle after November 5

 

For Example I switched from Bigpipe to sky, my billing cycle with BP was 13th to 12, so i set my churn to Sky on the 11th of the month with 30 days notice, never got double billed (except paid for 2 days unused with bigpipe)

Thanks for that, @nztim.
So in other words: 2 days before next billing cycle to avoid double bill;
                   but after end of old contract to avoid penalty.
                   
My understanding of the process is: 
1.   specify the desired date with provider
2.   obtain a date from provider (as their schedule and Chorus' schedule permits)
3.   give notice to old provider
Everything else is taking place behind the scenes.

 

Is that correct?

what kind of connection do you have with Vodafone, and what are you getting with your new provider?

4. When you can change or cancel your Services

 

4.1 You can cancel your Service at any time.  You must give us one month’s notice and pay us any money you owe us first. During the one month notice period, we will continue to provide the Service (unless you ask to disconnect earlier). We will charge you for the full notice period even if you request an earlier disconnection. ”

Be safer to give them notice, once 2degrees confirms the connection date has gone through with the Fibre company, not before.

Thanks for the clarification and link, @rugrat. Yes, the old t&c's --- why did I not think of consulting them myself!

 

(The answer is of course plain lazyness ...)

 

@Jase2985 both times fibre 100/20 (and hoping that this will go up to 300/100).
