Hi there. My sister has just moved to the Bay of Plenty from Oz and is trying to get internet connected so she can skype hubby who is still in Oz. It appears that there are no ports left for her to get broadband (she was told she was on a very loooong waiting list by the initial company she signed up with). She rang Telecom who weren't interested in helping her, and vodafone and finally orcon. I am trying to help her find a decent connection with a decent size plan by looking on the internet for her from here.  She is wanting something with like a 10GB shaped plan either satellite or mobile. Is there anyone at all who can offer some guidance and recommendation? Thanks in advance...

10GB on anything that's wireless or satellite will be expensive. Get a T-stick from Telecom as a temporary solution while you search for something more permanent.

telecom have a deal on currently, 8gb for $80 (its the 4gb plan with the 29.95 double data fee waived for the contract term ) only downside would be that you would have to sign on for 24 months which isnt very "temporary"

AFAIK the Telecom offer is actually $79.95 for 8GB, and a further $29.95 for another 4GB, so a total of 12GB for $108.90 if you go over the 8GB.

24 months of course as above.

EDIT: update to be posted below.

Regarding ADSL, what exchange is she on?  Should be able to find out from here:

In the BOP I think there are quite a few wireless providers..

eg: EOL and Netsmart have reasonable 10GB plans.  It will depend on if she's inside their coverage areas.

Terms from telecom.co.nz: If you happen to go over your monthly data allowance, then each megabyte will cost 10c.

So, pageweon is correct, sorry!

8GB is indeed $79.96, overage is charged at $0.10 per MB.
