Hi Guys,

I am currently planing setup a new desktop, basically for a bit gaming and graphic work. But I think I need some advises for what I have picked. Here is my initial list.

1 x Intel Core i7 4770 3.40GHz Socket 1150 Box
1 x Asus Z87-Plus
1 x Seagate Desktop SSHD ST2000DX001 2TB
1 x Intel 530 Series 2.5" SSD 120GB
1 x Dell UltraSharp U2414H
1 x Asus GeForce GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 2GB
1 x Corsair RM650 650W
2 x Corsair XMS3 Vengeance DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL10 8GB

not sure about which tower will be better for this, also shoud I pick water cooler over coller fan? Any suggestions, please? Thanks

What is your limit on money spent on this pc? and are you planning on building this yourself?
It would be worthwhile upgrading the cpu to the 4770k just so you wouldnt need to replace in a long time as well as it being easier to over-clock. - however not necessary because the 4770 is powerful enough as it is
Changing the ssd to the samsung 840 evo 120gb might also be worth thinking because it is the best bang for your buck in terms of speed and reliability.
Also getting a 750W psu might be necessary due to your high specs, the newer parts need a higher wattage.
If your heavily into gaming you might want to swap out the gpu for a newer model, especially something like the r9 280X or the r9 290. which could run bf4 on ultra specs at 100fps - my experience.
You should also look into the NZXT cases, especially the phantom or gaurdian, They have great reviews and look great, or something less pricey the cooler master HAF's have also received great reviews

with that budget are there any cheap 27"monitors?

if you want to do graphics work i'd say get a 2560x1440/1600 monitor ... gaming ... probably 1080p ... with your ram best to get 2 sticks of exact model. why don't you get 2x8gb or 2x4gb (dual channel)

1 x Seagate Desktop SSHD ST2000DX001 2TB - Could go for a combo driver 2TB + 128SSD inside
1 x Intel 530 Series 2.5" SSD 120GB - as above
1 x Dell UltraSharp U2414H - NO Dell is rubbish, ASUS all the way
1 x Asus GeForce GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 2GB - YES, or upgrade to a GTX770 if you can
1 x Corsair RM650 650W - YES
2 x Corsair XMS3 Vengeance DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL10 8GB - Kingston Hyper-X actually has lower latency and is cheaper

Did you forget a case?

Forgot to add that new mobos dont come with IDE at all anymore.

So if you have IDE drives or CD/DVDROMs you will need to get them too.

I would up the GPU to Nvidia GTX 770 or Radeon 280X if you are going for higher than 1080p resolution monitor.

Consider reducing the CPU to an i5 and putting more $$ into the GPU is budget/limit is a concern.

Have revised the pick up list as above, however, the motherboard and video card will be shiping from Taiwan as one of my friend is there. Keep trying to keep the budget not over 3k too much.........

Have you heard of pricespy.co.nz (or gearbot.co.nz).

Those prices are pretty much cost in NZ and any shop will match them.

If I had to recommend a shop it would be Computer Lounge. Free shipping, no CC fee, only quality gear, and nice guys :).

I'd be wary with overseas purchases. Warranty is much more difficult, shipping damage is possible.

Intel make good SSDs, as is the Samsung 840. I got the pro model, for piece of mind.

That video card sounds pretty serious, you said light gaming. $3K is pretty expensive for a PC these days.

I don't think the K CPU is required at all, it's only if you want to overclock. Personally I don't bother. Water cooling isn't necessary if you don't overclock, it's apparently a little noisy. I got a Noctuna cooler I'm very happy with, but the cooler master 212 is meant to be great value.

Do you need a WD black given you have a SSD? They work well, they're fast, and they have a great warranty, but they're more expensive than Seagate or other WD drives.

+1 for computer lounge - the price diff after shipping and duty isn't massive and warranty etc is a giant PITA if you go international.

The VS278Q has only a native resolution of 1920x1080 this is lower pixel density (icons and things will look larger proportionally but less sharp) than a 23" with 1080p resolution.

If you are going 27" then you reall want 2560x1440 (16:9) or 2560x1600 (16:10) in my opinion (unless you have grand dad eyesight).

Also I'd recommend you check out some screens in store so you can see the difference.
