Hi to all people 😊

Description about me:

First time building a gaming PC from scratch. Not first time pulling pc components apart and putting them back together again.

Bare with me guys I am new, but have a decent amount of understanding about how computers work since me and my friends use to talk about computers since we were in high school. However it's been a very, very long time looking at whats on the market. Only recently have been super excited about all the games comming out. I love putting things together and making it work is a MUST! for me. 👍 So please don't tell me just get PB Technology to build it.

My reference website in supporting my builds ''pcpartpicker'', all NZ stores including PB Tech, Computer lounge, PC force and Mightyape etc.

And google.

Budget estimating around $1000-$1300NZD prefered.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Radeon B450 Gaming X

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 series 3.4GHZ 6 cores AM4 socket

GPU: Asus Rog Strix Radeon RX 570 4GB Armour OC or something similar

RAM: 2x Crucial 8GB Desktop DDR4 2400MHZ

PSU: Thermaltake Tough Power Gold 550W 80+ Gold

ATX: Corsair Carbide series 100R Mid Tower Case

SSD: Already Own/Pc Swap

OS: Windows 10 64bit Home/Pro

CPU Cooler: Will chose after the build

OD(Optical Drive): Will chose after the build.

Peripheral: I already have.

Casual Gamer

Focused on certain game specifications: Age of wonders planet Fall, HumanKind, Civilization V, Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition. Age of Empires 4 on Medium quality. Maybe some others. I will be upgrading to a 8gb Graphics card in the far future.

You can offer Feedback, or change some of my specs if need to, re-arrange etc.

I've always been a "budget" gamer.....

Just before Xmas I upgraded to a Ryzen 3600, 16GB RAM, and board for $600. I had a video card (2nd hand RX580 for $190 6 months earlier). Already had case, psu, OS and drives.

So for your budget, I'd prob up the CPU, dont worry about the optical drive, and supplied CPU cooler with the 3600 is fine.

Just remember, buying from multiple suppliers costs extra in shipping, and if any warranty issues can be fun remembering who supplied what unless you hold all paperwork :)

Gaming motherboards aren't always great value - sometimes a basic motherboard can do everything you need with good performance at a significantly lower price.

Agree with the above, the 3600 is a pretty decent bump up in performance if you can afford it.

But if not your list is fine and should work pretty well.

Faster RAM is my only other suggestion but it can be a little tricky getting it to work right with some Ryzen setups so if you can get something from the motherboard QVL list that would be Ideal. For my 2700X I got SniperX 3200 that is not on the list and it doesn't work at 3200. I have to clock it down to 2933 to make my system stable.

This is the exact parts I purchased - I did need to get the BIOS upgraded on the board though to support the CPU.

Everything running happily and I'm stoked with the performance, GTA5 runs nicely, Overwatch I've maxed out the settings and still get over 100FPS etc

I would change the 3600 to the 3600X because it isnt that much more and also up your graphics card a little bit and you will pull some mint frames! Also I am sure that someone can help you acquire Windows 10 ;)

To be honest this is about the only reason to DIY a budget PC now; the availability of pre-made entry level gaming PCs has kinda made it a wash in terms of cost.

Also feel free to link your PCP build, makes it easier to see what sort of prices you are working with.

Tacking on to the others suggestions for a 3rd gen Ryzen CPU and faster RAM, I'd also consider trying to pick up a s/h GTX 1070 or RX 580. You may not necessarily save money, but you will get a lot more bang for buck. All the usual caveats around buying s/h apply of course, but as long as there is no physical abuse, it should be fine.

Yup, I've purchased a few video cards from users on here and GPForums, all have been fine and lasted forever....

Did have a friend years ago say he had a card I could have - went to pick it up. He tried to pick it up off the carpet - was tangled in carpet threads. Gave it to me..... I did test it but as suspected, dead. So deal with users who actually seem to care about their gear ;)

Highly recommend getting ryzen 2 (3xxx series) along with 3200MHz RAM.

A MSI Tomahawk (MAX) b450 is also a solid choice if you ever want to upgrade the cpu down the line.

Also another recommendation for secondhand gtx1070 or 580 8GB, as they can go below $300 and are solid performers for 1080p or mid 1440p.

Ive seen 580 8GB's go for $200 flat lately. If only I'd held out that tiny bit longer.....

Yup that's why I didn't price it as he wanted a budget setup. I want to get my hands on the 3950x!

Thanks Everyone😃. Replying to some questions.

Definately going for a Ryzen 5 3600 series. I realize if it has a Bios Flash button you can flash a 5 3600 series straight away. I thought I had to have 2600 series first before updating to the lastest version. There are lots of nice Motherboards and Rams you all have mention and will take in consideration of this build and may even swap my pre-building part check list. I'm pretty happy with a 4GB graphics card, however if I can get a cheap 2nd hand Radeon RX 580 8GB Graphics card. I would probably go that way. Because I have an old intel gaming computer still running most of the games I play anyways. I just cant run 2K+ pixel resolution. Or play warhammer 2 at high qaulity. Once again much appreciated. I just have to keep on working :)

Not all budget boards have support for the BIOS flashing (cant remember what they call it) so ensure it does - otherwise local PC stores should do it for you for a few dollars. Avoid PBTech though, they were going to charge the earth for it.

Thats right!. I went to PB Technology couple weeks ago. All I wanted was to replace the Intel stock standard CPU Fan Cooler. It was only $5.00 and when I asked for help and explainging what it was, he was like oh you just want that $5.00 one. Like he said it in a way he didn't make his Sale lol. A lot of the MSI B450 series motherboards have BIOS Flash buttons. Tomahawk, gaming plus, carbon pro etc.

Theres a lot of info on b450 since it sits squarely in the affordability range of the current market. MSI is top contender with the boards you’ve listed, although last I checked it might be a bit hard to find one.

X570 is out of your price range but if you do look at them go for Gigabytes Elite/pro or higher, Asus TUF or Asrock steel legend or taichi.

Another point about the 3600 vs 3600x, if you do find the prices to be very similar (ie. $10) then there is a case to just go with the 3600x.

While people will point out that on paper the two a pretty identical for specs, the chances of getting a ccx on the 3600x that clocks higher is better. It’s essentially the difference between a chip that does 4.0 or 4.3-4.5 all core with a certain voltage.

Only if it’s worth the $10 or so for you, or spend it on something better like a step up on gpu. End of the day you’re going to get a ryzen 3xxx that’ll do 4GHz and 3200MHz on memory guaranteed.
