The name that displays from a saved Google contact sometimes does not match the name when reading an email in the Chrome client (Version 86.0.4240.75 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Win10)

Composing  a new email brings up the correct name, but is there an under the hood way of looking at the associated name-email relationship?

Or is it some weird spelling check thing?

Have a look in https://contacts.google.com/ if they are in there with wrong information, that will over write the auto complete.

Yes, there is no mention of the name in the Saved contact starting with an R..

That is what is weird.

But your answer go me thinking about the "frequently contacted" address book - but the name was not in there either..

A mystery. (Although these to people *are* related - so at some level Google has mixed them up!!!)

That'll be the name the sender has specified for their e-mail address in the From header of their message.

You can check this by clicking the three dots to the right of the timestamp and selecting View Original, this will bring up the raw message headers (and text body content) of the email message this name is specified as the value of the From: header field.

GMail displays sender's email address next to their name if it's someone you haven't emailed in the past.
