Hello.
I have recently become a Windows Mobile user, and I had a few questions that I hoped the community might help me with.
Of course, I searched through this forum first, but did not find any answers.
Anyway, I previously used a Nokia 6230 before a friend gave me a HTC MDA.
The MDA works well, but I find it does not have much of the functionality that my old Nokia had.
For example:
a) No timed silent profiles. I could tell my Nokia, OK go on vibrate for the next three hours and then turn your ringer back on. No such luck in windows mobile. It's either on vibrate or off. This is bad when I am in a long meeting and I put my MDA in my briefcase. Sometimes I'll forget that the ringer's off, and it will be vibrating away for hours without me noticing.
b) No charger profiles. My Nokia allowed me to specify certain behaviors when I plugged it into its charger. For example, I could tell it "hey, only let these caller groups through when you're on your charger." That was great at home after hours, cause the last thing I would do before hitting the sack was plug the phone in. So then only family members, etc could get through while I was sleeping. Can't seem to find anything similar in the MDA.
c) New phone numbers. There was a setting in my Nokia which would ask me what I wanted to do with any new phone number that came into the phone. So if someone called from their cell, after I got off the call, it would say, "what do you want to do with this new number?" And I could say "add it to bob's contact as a mobile number." Again, very useful, but I can't seem to find an analogue on the MDA. What's worse, it does not seem possible to take a number from my call history and add it to an existing contact.
d)Call recording. My Nokia could record both sides of a phone conversation. The MDA seems to only be able to record my side, but does not pick up the other.
e) Contact search. I have nearly 600 entries in my contact database. This is the main reason why I wanted to go to Windows Mobile because it can use activesync to keep all of my contacts and calendar synced between outlook and my phone. My Nokia could do this too, but it couldn't handle some types of data that I find very useful. Ex. recurring appointments in calendar. Anyway, WinMo is great at synching my data. I love the calendaring, it's a big improvement. But I am annoyed that, when I search my contacts, it only searches the name and maybe the title. It doesn't do a global search that includes notes, which is where I often put additional info that will make a contact pop up in an exchange search.
Anyway, I wonder if any of you have solutions for any of these issues? I know that various programs are available to add functionality to WinMo, but I have not seen any that expressly say they address any of these. I was surprised to find that the MDA had so many fewer features than my old Nokia, which was not even a smart phone, let alone a Pocket PC.
