I recently purchased an HP 2215 and now have my first device with bluetooth. The techno person in side of me feels compelled to use this funtion. I live in a small home, and would like to be able to surf wirelessly, as well as synchronise wirelessly.

It sounds like setting up a wifi network would be the simplest, but that would require me to buy a CF wifi card and a wireless device for my desktop. It is possible to access the internet on my hp2215 using the built-in BT? I understand that I could purchase a BT access point (which seem to be quite expensive) or a BT dongle.

From what I understand the ppc has a class 2 BT built in. If I combine this with a class 1 bluetooth device connected to my computer, will my range be greater than 10m? How much range could I expect.

My goal is to setup wireless internet at a low cost.

Yes, you can access the internet using Bluetooth. You'll share the internet from a computer already connect, accesing it via a Bluetooth dongle in said computer.

Bluetooth LAN Access Points work very well, like wi-fi, but the cost is higher than a dongle, because it provides other services too (DHCP, routing, etc) for a large scale of deployment.

So, get a Bluetooth dongle (hey, enter our competitions and you might get one!) and follow our Bluetooth Guides.

About the distances... The shortest range will define the maximum distance. If one of the devices has a 10m range, this will be the max - although it may go a little over sometimes.

hey guys,

i went through your set up guide for Bluetooth Internet Sharing. It is very nicely done; but i still seem to have a problem with my connection. By the time i am done setting up the connection wizard and my HP2215 tries connecting to my Desktop Bluetooth Adapter, it asks me for a Username, Password and Domain where as don't know what to do with any of them. Secondly, if a type in dummy information or ignore the prompt, it tries dialing to my PC using the Bluetooth Null Modem and hangs for a while & ends up getting me a connection error. Is there any thing wrong that i am doing? I set my Internet Connection to share. Please help me..
