Hi there, just purchased a 3970 of Ebay only to find that it is not working. I think a flash of the Rom will sort it out but the HP website will not let me download the file.
If anyone out there has a copy of the file ( iPAQ H3970 and H3975 Pocket PC ROM Update
version 2.10) i would be very grateful if you let me have a copy of it.

Is it not turning on or not booting? Sometimes the battery is not holding enough charge, in this case let it recharge for at least 6 hours without trying to turn the Pocket PC on.

Thanks for the reply. I can see a screen (faint) with a big compaq logo on it and v0.48 at the bottom, if i try a hard reset it just goes straight back to that after i put it in the cradle.

Have you recharged the iPAQ for a few hours? I think this may be case...

Yes its been charging all night and day. I'm just thinking that maybe the person who sold it to me was trying to upgrade from ppc 2002 to 2003 and messed something up in the process. As it was advertised as having ppc 2003 installed.
Also, at the top of the screen just above the compaq logo there is a white bar in it says usb, when i remove the device from the cradle it changes to serial and windows makes the usb removed sound. Then it goes back to saying usb when its returned to the cradle.

Have you tried a hard reset? There's a procedure that will "restart" the battery. Have the wall charger ready, and hold down the two outer keys (calendar and itask) and pressing the reset button for five seconds. Then you plug the power cable and let it restart.

Thanks again for the reply i'm at the end of my tether. Yes i have tried the hard reset a few times, the screen fades out as is supposed to happen the as soon as it goes back in the cradle the same old screen comes back up.
I've scoured the web all day and thought that flashing the rom was my answer, its just the file on the Hp website wont let me download for some reason.
