Hi There!

I have had the weirdest thing happen over the weekend. I was playing "the last of us" on Friday night, no issues. Suddenly on Saturday PM, when I switched on to play again, I got a black screen. After much troubleshooting it would appear the problem occurs when I enable 1080p as one of the resolutions the PS3 outputs in. The system is 2 years old, always been connected the same way and never have I ever had an issue. From memory I did an update to 4.41 about 3-4 days ago, I don't think it was the 4.45 that had an issue.

I don't think it's my Amplifier as all my other 1080p devices such as my blu-ray player, and xbox360 are working perfectly.

I changed the cable and that made no difference, though I wasn't expecting it to as 1080i and 720p both work fine!

It's not my projector either for the same reasons.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

I've only seen that issue when one HDMI cable was swapped for another, and the errors transmitted weren't enough to allow for a 1080p movie to be shown... a change back to the other cable fixed it. Are you swapping for the same brand / length HDMI?
What amp?
Is video scaling turned on / off?
Have you tried connecting directly to your TV with the PS3?

My PS3 resets its video output setting from time to time, forcing me to reset it back. But that sounds like a slightly different issue to what you're experiencing, especially if you've already diagnosed that setting it to 1080p is where things are going pear shaped.
