Does anyone know if there is a good site with clear instructions on how to set up a ADSL Broadband connection into my network with a WiFi router.

The issue is that the ADSL 2+ router wants to be 192.168.1.1 with DHCP and I want to use it with my WiFi 4 port router which is also a DHCP master. It is at 192.168.0.1 and assigning addresses in the 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.xxx range.

I plugged the ADSL router into port four but cannot ping it at 192.168.1.1.

I have my Woosh broadband wireless modem currently in the WAN port (it will be defunct as soon as I get the ADSL going).

I have a four port hub plugged into port 1 of the WiFi router and this provides links to my harwired network in the house of four jack points, three of which are in current use.  Finally my own computer is using WiFi as I didn't put a plug into this hard to reach part of the house.

so it looks like this.  Any help gratefully received.

hi smbunn, and a warm welcome to geekzone!

What type of ADSL modem-router do you have?
The optimal setup would be to use the ADSL modem in PPP half bridge mode - this makes it work in the WAN port of your wireless router (when the WAN port is configured to use DHCP)

The (NZ firmware) D-links unfortunately do not support PPP half bridge and if you have one of those I will advise another setup.
Instead of having two different networks (192.168.0.0 and 192.168.1.0) change the IP of your wireless router to 192.168.1.254 and turn off it's DHCP server

Thanks Barf for such a prompt reply.

I have a Dynalink ADSL 2+ RTA1320 modem router.  The manual says it supports bridging.  Woosh say it is "pre-configured" so dont touch anything.  I assume therefore my lowest risk is to let the ADSL router be my DHCP server.

Do I plug it into my WAN port of my WiFi router even if its not in bridge mode?

What type of wireless router is it?

Try plugging the ADSL modem into a LAN port of your wireless router, after disabling the wireless router's DHCP server and changing it's IP to 192.168.1.254 (assuming the ADSL router is 192.168.1.1)

you shouldn't need to change the configuration of the ADSL modem, just plug it into the LAN (not WAN) after disabling that wireless routers DHCP server

Thanks again.

My ADSL light just came on so looks like I am live and ready to go.  I will try setting it up tonight.  My WiFI router is an AT&T 620 I bought on one of my many US trips.  It's 802.11g and came with a PCI card for a total price of US$40 about a year ago.  Now you can buy them for that sort of price here but at the time it was a bargain.  It has been as reliable and as stable as I could ever want, my old Belking 802.11b set up used to fall over almost daily, now I can't remember when I last had to reboot the router.

Hey there, i'm new to this forums, and i stumbled upon it while trying to find a solution. Funny thing is that my setup is very similar to his.

So here's my question. I've got a D-Link Router/Wireless/ Print Server, a D-Link Switch and an Aztech ADSL2+ Router modem.

My setup is like so:

Phone line --> Router Modem --> Wireless Router --> Switch --> PC.

The thing is that i, like he said, can't access the router modem from this config, (192.168.1.1). The Wireless Router's is 192.168.0.1.

What i wanna do is disable the routing feature in the modem router whole, and instead use the D-Link Wireless Router to do the dialing instead.

I've tried disabling the DHCP and relay server but that doesn't work. Any insight on this?

Hi there

I'm just warming up for this forum.
I've gotten a same problem with you while I set up my Xtra broadband .
I have a D-link 502T ADSL Router and DI-624A Wireless Router.
I also can't make its work togeter. but eventually, I got it work by very easy way.

just let Wireless Router like a HUB, put the ADSL router LAN connect to DI-624 LAN port .
and keep ADSL Router as a DHCP server . that's yeah.

In the ned it was easy at my end.  I made the ADSL be the DHCP server at 192.168.1.1.  I had my wireless hub plug into the ADSL router as just another device.  A second port on the ADSL router goes to my switch and my three PCs off that switch pick up their IP addresses by DHCP.

You cannot mix sub domains so must all be 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x

If you have the two domains they will not see each other.

By the way I am running Vista Ultimate RC2 and it has a very cool network map feature which correctly identifies all my neywork hardware and the layout.
