We have 10 cameras set up and all are currently working. Checked with direct link through a laptop. We now wish to connect them to a DVR that has been retrieved from a previous analogue installation.

The cameras are all plugged into to a switch and the DVR is also connected to the switch but they are not communicating.

If it's an analogue DVR, then it probably doesn't support your digital cameras.

My cheapie hybrid NVR needed a complete factory reset to change it between the various analog and NVR modes, and there were serious limits on the resolutions that it would take when in NVR mode - was 8 channels of analog HD, but would only do 8 channels of IP if they were all 720p, setting it to 1080p got 2 channels of 1080p and the extras on really low resolution from memory.

Also it was underpowered junk with it not even able to stream all 8 cameras out to 2 remote PCs at once.

You'll really need to provide a lot more information if you would like some help. There is nothing in your post that could provide anything useful to diagnose your issue.

What sort of DVR is it? Does the DVR even support IP cameras? Are the cameras added to the DVR if it is a hybrid that supports analogue and IP? Are they set to a resolution supported by the DVR?
