Hello all!

I'm looking for some decent sounding headphones for as low price as possible
I'm on a budget of nothing over $40 that I can buy in christchurch.
Anyone know any?

The sound quality should be better/equal to the ones included with the ipod.
I prefer ones with leather cushions on them but that is not a must.

Sennheiser are my favourite brand for headphones...really good quality, though you'll probably pay closer to $80. Avail at DSE & JB-HIFI etc

I have heard some sennheisers too, they sound very good along with the bose and sonys. but all of they brands have quite a steep start price at their at least helf decent speakers.

yeah - in my experience with lots of brands & types of headphones, you get what you pay for. It's worth it to pay for a decent set and look after them well, rather than throwing away money on crap sounding ones you'll probably have to replace quickly. I just got some Sennheisers for my iPhone ($90 from JB)...sound is amazing, and they came with a protective case to put them in when you're not using them...well worth it.
btw I'm not a sales rep or anything, just sharing my recommendation! =)

Unfortunately $40 isn't going to get you a decent pair of headphones and may not even be as cheap as you think because when I used to buy headphones for under $100 they would typically last me about six months whereas moderately priced headphones can last years if they're well looked after.

I currently have a pair of Bose headphones which I wouldn't necessarily recommend if you're trying to squeeze as much performance per dollar as possible (although I personally love them), but the Sennheiser PX200s that I had previously were still going strong after four years and they only cost about $120.

hmmm, I was thinking if I could get ear buds from apple (which sounded god but only lasted me 2 months)
would it be possible to beat the ipod ones in value and surpass its sound quality with an extra 10 dollars.
$40 may be a bit low, but I may spend up to $50 if its really worth it.

It's a matter of personal taste, but I'm not fond of in canal headphone designs because it's really gross when they get contaminated with earwax. I bought a pair of Metro-Fis a year or two ago and found that when contaminated I could usually soak the grills in alcohol to clear them, but it didn't take long for them to become so badly contaminated that I couldn't clear them at all and ultimately had to dispose of them.

Not sure about the 100's as I have the 200's - which I love. I much prefer the in-ear canal phones to the buds because of the noise isolation. They cut out a heck of a lot of background noise which is great for the music - but not so good if someone wants to talk to you. Sound quality is also very good. Ear wax isn't too big a problem - clean your ears every now and then and keep on top of the wax build up so it doesn't get too bad. I don't think you'll find anything that sounds anygood for $40 - but good luck.
