Well as we all know the iphone is coming to NZ with Vodafone - it also has recently been leaked/rumoured that the 3g phone will be released on the 9th June, further more it is likely(and again rumoured) that Voda will straight release the 3g in NZ.

So, my question is: You already have an iphone, as do I, what will you be doing with yours?

Will you sell your existing phone to purchase a 3g?

Keep your current and buy another?

Not worry?

I can't decide what to do, so am curious as to everyone elses thoughts are.

I have been so totally uninterested in the 1st iPhone, but 3G version takes my fancy.

The big dilemma is whether to actually just pick up a cheap secondhand 1st generation model when they suddenly drop in value by 30-50% (complete speculation on my part).

Seriously, I'll sell and upgrade. I've always bought high-end phones regularly, and see it as more of a "rental" thing when I sell them six months later and pay another couple of hundred dollars to upgrade.

Will the first gen iphones do EDGE on Telecom's network? Could be a good use for them if they do, a good bump up from gprs anyway.

This from Wikipedia - seems ad odds with everything I've heard to date....

I may be wrong, but I do not think Telecom are deploying EDGE.

You are wrong.

Telecom deploying EDGE has been one of the big things about the GSM/CDMA network. That and going straight to HSPA on the WCDMA side of things.

Until Vodafone come up with a realistic plan for mobile data (not on 24 mth contracts) I will be sticking with my 1st Gen iPhone which I am happy with (wifi and voice calls only)

I believe that data costs will be the deciding point for many. 3G = faster = more data used = more $$

I'm more interested in the other features it will have. Hopefully, slimmer, with a better camera and I'm praying for a flash.

3G would be great though especially if Voda releases a decent data plan that we can tether!

im frantically waiting for it to come out so i can pick up a cheap 1st gen. I dont like my N95 8GB much, its too......plain.

I have never seen/held an iPhone in person. Today I used an iPod touch for the first time. The touchscreen just blows away Windows Mobile devices I have used (Palm, HTC, HP etc). Are the iPhones the same size as the iPod touch? Very thin already, thinner and shorter than my Nokia E51, and not too much wider either.

The iPhone will become very attractive to me in 3G guise.

AFAIK, the current iphone is slightly thicker and slightly taller than the itouch. the Iphone 3g however is meant to be a similar size to the itouch. That is only AFAIK. Nothing confirmed.

Its true the multitouch screen is awesome and when it comes down to it its the dealmaker for the iphone. People can compare feature lists such as GPS, 3g, drag drop support etc but the real revolution is the iphone's touchscreen. Amazing how so many other manufacturers (HTC, LG etc) have tried to copy it but it is noway near as responsive and accurate as the apple touchscreen.

As above the iPhone is slightly thicker than the itouch, but still relatively slim especially when compared to an n95! Noone really knows jack about the iphone 2 but one can only assume it would be slimmer. Not long to wait now though kids!
