Hey Everyone,

Have recently been asked by a friend to attend his stag, which will be riding motorcycles round NZ, unfortunately I don't have anything to ride and I really want to attend if possible, I have been joking that I would get a bike for a long time so now might be the time, though it will have to be on a tight budget. I would prefer to have some time to get used to the bike before attending which is why I would prefer not to hire something. I have about 6 months before the stag.

I have not ridden properly for probably 10 years but I am looking for a Sports bike which would fit into the LAMs list, My previous bike was a GSX-R 250 R 1989 which was sports tuned and I loved to bits.

Spec I would prefer.

Engine Cap: 250-600cc
Bike type: Sports or Sporty Cruiser
Working condition (e.g. able to do a lap of the south island without breaking down)
Able to overtake other vehicles @ 100Kms (preferably easily)
Prefer to be in Christchurch for pick up.

All going well I would like to make this bike my work commuter on nice days.

I am not going to give a price as I would like to keep my options open but will consider anything, I will also be looking on trademe and such.

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Im in ChCH, have a Suzuki 650F. I took a GSX 1000 S for a spin the other day as a loaner as my bike was in for 18k service. NICE, except the throttle is far too sensitive. Its quick. But back on my 650F it felt like a cruiser! Id opt for something like mine, its quick, its easy, its solid. I can potter thru commuting traffic, and wind it out, a good compromise. Ive had bikes since age 15, a big break, had a 250, out grew is in 2200km. a 650 is is a nice option for speed and options. My 650F cost 13 on special, can sell at 7 or trade at 5. Thats great value.Im keeping it. Id have bought the 1000S if it wasn't for the mapped throttle response, cannot really be eased. Buy what will last, its more costly to buy twice.

Awesome thanks for the advise tdgeek I will keep this in mind, though I do want to keep it under 600 if possible as from what I understand 650 is where the ACC levy goes up by $100, thats not to say I wouldn't consider something that size, it would just have to be something to hard too turn down.

I think I have found a Bike Suzuki GSX 250 Invader 2003, would love to find any documentation on this though I am not sure this is the place to start.

No, its the full monty version! When I was lookimg into a GSX 1000 S the otjher day and going over trade in, it seems LAMS are common? And its expensive to convert to full.

For learners, you are forced to buy a real 250 and resell it later. Although he did say its similar around town.

The 1000S is NICE. Its a bit smaller, more nimble, and quick. Althought the 650 is quick enough. But the downside for me is the twitchy throttle. When I got the 650 it had a twitchy throttle, I got used to it, and apart from a bumply road I can hold rpm and speed easily. At 50k, 60k the 1000S I cannot. I can hear and feel the revs and drive gear jerking back and forth. Yeah, nah as they say.

You have all the wet gear sorted? I used to hate bad weather as my leggings were too bulky, padded, and an effort to get on and off. I now have a pair of thinner ones. Light outer material, the inner is rubbery and light. Now wet weather is no more than 30 seconds longer to get my gear on
