I have been on the gigabit plan for about 2 months now without any issues. For about the last week my speed has dropped to around 180 mbits down. I spoke to 2 degrees and they told me there is nothing they can do. I could pay them $50 to reduce my plan back to the 200/20 which is faster than what I am getting now.

I am using the Fritzbox 7490 and connected over ethernet.

Change the server to the nearest Two Degrees NZ server and test again.

Made any config changes to the router, we had issues with ours as the flatmate had put port forwarding on which cut our speed down to about 100megs, removed the port forwarding and it went back up to 800

No changes for quite a while. I am the only one using it. It has been running full speed for months. The funny thing is the upload speed is still good.

1) What router have you got? one of the fritz boxes?

2) What PC are you using to test. What is the spec. Is it a desktop, or a laptop. What is the CPU/Ram spec. I have done speed tests on gig lines with my i7 macbook pro, and it gives me sometimes 800/900 mbps Up and only 300ish mbps down. Also use firefox to do a speedtest and close everything down, for some reason i find chrome a bit slower.

3) I presume you are not using wifi to do the tests.

4) Every firewall/routing rule you add/change can put more pressure on the CPE/Router's ability to process packets and slow it down.

Can you confirm if you are testing over ethernet or Wifi?

If Wifi do you know if you are connected over 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

Were you able to get this resolved? I have been experiencing the same problems for about the same length of time. Speedtest currently gives me around 180mb when previously I would see as high as 850 or so.

Let me know if you were able to get to the bottom of it.

Cheers

No not yet after 2 days of proving its not a problem at my end they have logged a fault with Chorus.

Tried factory reset of the modem, different cables, everything unplugged etc - no change

Still cannot get more than 300 down (upload is always 450+)
