Hi

I currently have standard sky installed and using the RF out and rg6 cable to my patch panel which has a splitter to send sky to my second lounge and bedroom TV, the main room has component video straight to the TV. I also have a roof aerial which feeds my HTPC and gives me DVB-T connected to my main room TV via HDMI.

This all works well but I have now got a freeview tv in my bedroom and want to watch sky on analogue and also use the freeview tuner (so we can watch different channels rather than all watching the same sky channel).

I thought I read somewhere you could just split the uhf coax and install a splitter one going to my HTPC and the other to the rf on the back of the sky box.

I tried this but cannot get get freeview on the bedroom tv only analogue sky. The HTPC still picks up db-t fine so i know I am getting a signal. I only have one RG6 cable going to each room so how do I get this working? I read somewhere I may need a diplexer is this the answer any help appreciated thanks.

Its probably just too weak to get down that cable, and the modulators in boxes will usually do a number to digital signals with them crapping all over the UHF band in some cases.

You really need to check signal levels from off air, and from the old skybox and see if they are about the same, and solve it if they are not. Normally the sky box outputs is a lot weaker than off air, but if you are in a poor reception area it might be stronger, so an amplifier on the antenna is needed to make them equal.

So how do i check the signal. I also need something to merge the signal if I do not use the. Sky box.

Tried searching on forums but cannot find any posts with this issue. How does everyone else have this setup as I would imagine this is a common need.

Why not run your sky box into your HTPC (using an IR blaster for changing channels) and then use a network based media player to play in the bedroom?

If you do it right you have access to everything on your HTPC and sky and freeview.

Antenna installers have a spectrum anylizer to check it out.

Are the plugs all proper crimp on F connectors with an adapter or else a hex crimp PAL plug? The junk screw terminal ones have been known to cause issues with digital, as have old crap splitters with clamps for the wire and no shielding.
