Hi,

I have a superview 380 digital receiver which i got off trade me over a year ago and it was working perfectly fine until a few weeks ago. My neice had been watching her cartoons before going to kindy and it was working then but later on that evening when i wanted to watch ellen on tv 1 it came up with NO SIGNAL, my partner went outside and bumped the sky dish (which is a dual LNB thing) and it got a picture but still had NO SIGNAL so we left it hoping it would fix itself, and then yesterday I had another go ....

I ran blind scan on both OPTUS D1, D2 AND C1 there was a signal of 23% on D1 and C1 and after fiddling with the motor settings on the receiver for D2 I managed to get 59% signal and 63% quality and only got SBS 1, 2 and 3.

I googled my sunday away trying to fix it without having to tamper with the dish because after looking at some of the posts i found on google, that is way to technical for me (not really, I just don't have patience :) )

My sister who has sky in her room also lost the sky signal the same day our freeview started playing up. But this has never interfered with our signal, we've had sky in 2 rooms and the freeview in the lounge for the past 2 years.

So, there was not enough of a signal to get Freeview channels (1,2,3 etc) on OPTUS D1.

This morning my partner went outside moved the dish around a bit and still nothing :( If I can help it I'd rather not fork out to have a technician come do a 5 minute job, so will take all advice given to hopfuly avoid the inevitable, spend all week doing it if I must. (I'm just that sort of person "Miss-Do-It-Herself")

I've been to http://www.lyngsat.com/optusd1.html printed the transponders out and tried them (thanks to previous discussions, but that didn't help any)

The following are the the results from the blind scans I was doing yesterday

Optus C1

(and then would come up with No Channel because of low signal (?) )

I also manually put in transponders umm 12483 H 22500, 12460 H 22500, 12486 H 22500 but got NO CHANNEL when I started auto, manual and blind scan.

After all of that, only then did I admit it could very well be the dish. Now, after moving the dish around all signals are down to 15-20% and I can't even get SBS 1, 2 or 3 now :-/

I've restored the DSR back to factory default and taken photos of the Optus Satellite things for you if that is of any help.

If you have SKY installed they can come and sort it for you for free I expect if it's a hardware failure.

You shouldn't move the dish until you've exhausted other avenues. Now if it's pointing in the wrong direction you may not get anything, even if you fix what was wrong originally.

Do you watch sky and freeview off the same dish?

The dual lnb's are failing at the moment so this may well have been the problem. Now you may need to replace the lnb and re align the dish.

Also it may have been a failed splitter.

Umm, yea we have been using the 1 dish for both sky and freeview. My partner said it wasn't the splitter thing cos the signals coming thru both of them. I don't know what a splitter is.

My sisters partner doesn't want to have a sky technician come around to fix the dish (cos he's a dork). I did ring them though, and the lady I spoke to said they could get a technician out to fix it but if they found it was the freeview receiver that we are using that was causing the problems there would be a charge for it.

But that's what I don't get, it was working fine and has been for the last year and a bit.

As above, those LNB's have been failing so it very well could have been the problem.

Seriously now you need someone who can put it all back how it was and trouble shoot it properly. If you have moved the dish itself then you have made it quite a bit more tricky for yourself, likewise with the lnb and the freeview receiver being reset.

There were some high winds around the country recently so it may have been an alignment problem. Easiest option would be to remove the freeview boxes and get sky to come and take a look at it, however any installer should be able to get it up and running again.

In the meantime though, I'd turn the sky box back on as this still has the channels in it, realign the dish and rotate the lnb slowly to see if you can get anything. That would be a good start. If the splitter had failed there may be no device powering the lnb. One of those horrible satellite finders would at least show that you have power up to the lnb.

Sky will sort it out for you if you're a customer.

What happens to some old LNB's is that the current they need to work increases as they age and this causes the voltage provided from the decoder to be too low to make the LNB go into Horizontal mode (they need 18V to go Horizontal and receive freeview, and 13V to get Vertical channels like SBS). When this happens they stay switched to vertical, which might be why you only find SBS.

This voltage drop could also be caused by faulty splitters, cable and connectors too, but my guess is the LNB's faulty.
