Hi everyone,

I am looking for an top-end Android phone that will run on the telecom XT Network. Originally wanted to get the Desire HD, but found out it won't work (need 850Mhz WCDMA?). The main criterion is screen size, need 4"+.

I really favour the HTC phones and their Sense UI but am open to other suggestions!

Many thanks.

Samsung Galaxy S is the phone you want.....from Telecom. Not the Vodafone one.

You may also want to see if you can get the Galaxy Tab....again via Telecom. It's basically a phone with a 7" screen. I'd buy one, keep it in a shoulder bag or briefcase of some kind....and use a bluetooth headset with it. No way am I holding a dinner-plate sized phone up to my head. :-)

The Galaxy Tab has a phone built in....whereas the iPad does not....and I see the phone as a huge advantage. You don't need to own two (perhaps even 3) devices. Just get the tab and it's potentially your phone, you tablet....and even your laptop.

I have a Galaxy S. Ithas a 4" screen. I used to use a cheapo M001 android tablet when I had a Nexus One.....but that slightly larger Galaxy S screen saw me rarely touch my tablet....so I sold it. I gave my laptop away a year ago.....the phones have filled that niche, too. If I can't do it on the phone, I do it on my desktop. No half ways.

http://www.gsmarena.com/search.php3 is your friend.

Just select UMTS 850, Operating system Android, Display size 4.0 inches or more, and you're away laughing.

Of these results, Telecom sell the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. That may fit the bill?

There's also the Samsung Galaxy S i9000T on XT - for some reason this doesn't appear to be listed on GSM Arena.

If you want something that runs as well as a old dog then you would go for the X10
If you want something that's speedy, then go for the Samsung Galaxy S i9000T.

I have noticed that most of the Telecom Android Devices have "Telecom Bloat" on them now, I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S that I got from them, I ended up just swapping out for a Vodafone one due to all the customizations on the phone itself.

Since you are a Telecom Customer this shouldn't worry you, but since I am a Proud Vodafone Customer the Telecom crap just gets in the way.

telecom bloat?
I'd be interested in seeing what these apps are, if they have developed an account info app then i'd like the APK for it.

michaelmurfy: since I am a Proud Vodafone Customer

Wow, words I never thought I would hear anyone say except maybe the Vodafone board of directors...contractually. I don't know anyone on the VF network that would actually say they were proud of it. It's like saying "as a proud herpes sufferer..."

Anyway I seem to remember back in the day that my Vodafone phone came with a load vodaspecific crap on it.

Indeed, well I have actually been with them since my 11th birthday, never had any problems. That marks my 10th Anniversary the day after Christmas, plus VF Family is the dealbreaker with me since my Family is on Vodafone.
