Just checked. Yes able to see programmes on PC desktop.

Name change is still there, but otherwise normal.

Maxcat:One of my Tivos has dropped its name and is now no longer on the HNP.

I can still see it, but it has reverted to its number code name not its assigned name and while I can still see it on the home network, no programmes are seen.

I have restarted and nothing has changed. Still on the home network, but no programmes.

+1 for me, one of my two Tivos has done this.  I've also had an ongoing probably unrelated problem where one Tivo would lose sight of the other for a period.

My TiVo woke up from surgery to find it’s HDMI port was no more.
A second TiVo survived 100%.
I would like to exchange the two HDDs - is this even feasible ?

Yes it is, but expect to loose all your recordings, season passes etc.

The working Tivo will see the new HDD as one from a different unit and ask to re-initialise the unit, wiping all of the recordings etc

Actually, this doesn’t happen.

The TiVo with a foreign drive sits at the “almost there” screen for ever (well for at least 10 mins while the normal delay is around 5 mins)

Swapping disks back restores normal behaviour.

Maybe the drives will have to stay in the original units

I can confirm you CAN swap drives as mentioned above but have to RESET everything once into the main menu as stated above, losing all recordings.

The Tivo gives you a clear message about this when it detects a different HDD.

You must not have waited long enough, or there was another issue (possibly with connections?).

I waited twice as long with swapped drives as a normal boot sequence takes, with two different tivo motherboards and 3 TiVo disks . Bad connections unlikely with the plugs in use on the drives, they are quite positive connectors.

Do we know for sure the patched software behaves in this way or just the original?

To be honest, having media wiped doesn't really help me out much, so I will just leave things alone I think, but a friend is keen to swap disks on a unit before getting his modded, as his version of software is *really* old.

Tonight the second of my three Tivos on the HNP has failed as well.

Name has changed to DVR-EA45 and now does not see programmes on other Tvios.

I think this will now be endemic throughout all Tivos, rendering the Home Network connection between Tivos as obsolete.

Mine was modded, and it was well after Oct 31st. But your right, things may have changed since, as we are currently seeing the Networked Tivo's slowly crumbling!

Time for the Tivo Guru's to look into Freeing up the Networking side for all Tivo's... I will gladly Donate for that option to be cracked !$!

I second that. Being able to name the tivo's again also. I sorely miss my tivo networking ability.

What about the Tivo Genie? Did anyone use that feature, where you could go online (while your away from home) and get your home Tivo to record something.

I used that a couple of times. Now I might be pushing the boundaries too far ...

I am told that broken solder joints onto the HDMI socket is a common cause of failure. I've yet to try fixing broken HDMI on anyone's TiVo so I can't corroborate this from my own experience. It will be a bit of a fiddly job due to the narrow pin spacing on the connector, but worth a crack I reckon.

You can't swap HDDs between TiVos without doing a Clear & Delete All because it complains about a 'hardware error' which just means the serial number on the motherboard and on the HDD don't match. Unless it is encrypted it must be possible to change it. I need to look into this myself as my wife's main TiVo didn't survive a RAM replacement, and I have just bought a replacement TiVo.

As for the HDMI socket, be careful. I have had two go exactly the same way after trying to fix them with a soldering iron - a short between pin/pads 18 and 17 on the board resulting in smoke/red glowing pin/crackling. One I recovered using a hot air gun, the other is a bit of a mess that I'm still trying to repair with bits of wire. If only I'd waited to get my hot air gun back.

That said, I had previously successfully repaired two others by touching up the soldering by applying flux and gently pressing down on each pin with the soldering iron.

If you are in Christchurch I'd be happy to try using my hot air gun on the connector (but I'm not touching it with the soldering iron).
