Hi mattwnz

I thought I was doing something stupid but having googled the problem I see it is tied in with overlapping start times from 2 programs which is what I have, recording the soaps for her who must be obeyed.For some reason it mainly affects afternoon programs ??? Could also be signal strength related my was down to 32 % now up to 56% ,I will see how it goes

TiVos have dual tuners. At my previous house, I had a problem where, if both tuners were on the same channel, the sound would mute altogether (and occasionally the picture would pixelate too) on one or other tuner. I sent several TiVos back to Spark and got to know the Hybrid helpdesk staff on a first name basis trying to resolve this, but every TiVo I got back as a replacement was afflicted to some degree or other. I gave up getting them replaced after a while and lived with it after working out how I could avoid the issue.

Normally if you are watching one TV channel then change to another channel and the other tuner just so happens to already be on it, the TiVo will switch to the other tuner rather than change the channel on the first tuner. Because of this a TiVo normally keeps the tuners on different channels most of the time and the conditions bringing up the problem are avoided.

Where both tuners do go onto the same channel is when back-to back programs on the same channel are recorded. The problem would then remain until the channel was changed on one or other tuner.

Is this what you are seeing in your case?

I could avoid the issue by arranging my recording schedule to avoid back-to-back recordings on the same channel, recording one program on the TiVo and the other on a different device. The appearance of the +1 channels since then also gave me a workaround in many cases if I could live without 5.1 sound on one of the programs.

When I moved house, the problem mysteriously went away. Completely. Working with RF as a job I came to the conclusion there was some critical phase shift happening in the antenna cabling (there were splitters, VHF/UHF combiners and stuff everywhere) in the old house, or interference due to the fact I was receiving from both the Kaukau and Colonial Knob broadcast transmitters in Wellington at pretty much exactly the same signal strength.

One weird thing is that technically the tuners often have to be tuned on the same RF channel to receive (say) viewing channels TV1 and TV2, as the digital broadcast channels transmit several viewing channels on the same RF channels. In such case the separate viewing channels are plucked from identical digital data streams after demodulation. But the problem I saw would only come up if both tuners were on the same viewing channel, the tuners being on the same RF channel by itself wasn't enough to cause the issue by itself. If RF interference or phase shifting really was an explanation I would have expect it to afflict the tuners while they are on the same RF channel irrespective of the selected viewing channel, but this was not what was happening in my case. I have no explanation for that...

If you find the issue is happening for you just on back-to-back recordings, I recommend you check to see if you are receiving strong signal from multiple transmitters, and consider renewing the TV antenna and cabling if it's not in a good state. And avoid back-to-back recordings.

Hi there

Many thanks for your reply and for taking the time to explain the problem. You have explained the situation exactly, 2 programs back to back on the same channel (Emmerdale and Coro I know !!!) and with overlaps. It wouldn't be antenna related because we are in a new retirement village with a excellent signal so I will play around with the overlaps

My Tivo started telling me that there is no signal. I have powered cycle and same issue. Shows powering up then goes no signal. Tried different HDMI cable and port. Same issue. Tried with composite and got stuck on almost finished for about 5 minutes but booted fine and I was able to access the recordings. Anyone else had this issue. Right now it seems to be the HDMI port got busted.

Is your TiVo telling you 'no signal' or is it your TV telling you 'no signal'? Seeing as composite works (or do you mean component?) then I assume it is the TV saying 'no signal' from the TiVo. It is quite common for the HDMI port to fail. Sometimes it can be fixed by resoldering the HDMI connector pins onto the motherboard. Otherwise just use component, both are limited to 1080i anyway.

Yes I meant component. I ended up using it instead as the TV works with other sources using the same HDMI cable. I don't want to spend anymore to get the HDMI port fixed given that the TIVO could die completely anytime soon.

Component on the NZ software is SD only. The Ozz setting gives you HD but of course no channels.

Hi All, Been a while since I posted on here. I was contacted by one of my customers pointing out EPG duration is lacking. I had a look myself and it fades out friday / saturday. 3 days worth. As I am unsure of the current systems in place for populating the EPG I thought make mention of it here for anyone in the know to reply.

Is anyone else's EPG playing up again?

Tonight my TV3 movie Marigold Hotel is missing... then has at least 2 other programs listed.

And Choice has "Saturday Movie" instead of actual movie title "Jane got a gun"
