Fred99:

FWIW, as more small scale clinical trials are reporting that (Hydroxy)Chloroquine doesn't work, the President's supporters are flooding the interweb with character assassination of the medical researchers and institutions, even accusing them of child abuse blah blah BS.

Oh you mean a bit like what happened in China with the doctors who tried to speak up about the virus outbreak. How ironic.

And not uncharacteristic from Trump supporters. But let's no add the politics of stupidity in this thread. Use the Politics sub-forum thread for this.

At least there's a bit of good news in the US. Due to Trump's abdication from responsibility, all 50 states have indeed implemented some form of social distancing.

As expected at the state level, social distancing rules and testing levels varies wildly. In general Republican governors are the least strict. In the case of Georgia, the governor overrode mayors and opened beaches.

My sister-in-law in Idaho is, at this moment, getting house renovations done, because all construction is considered essential. In her defense, her house was hit by a hurricane a year ago.

Bill Gates talks coronavirus: Social distancing comes at a 'huge economic price'

Yahoo Finance

Billionaire Bill Gates cautioned that although social distancing is necessary to combat the coronavirus pandemic, it will also significantly impact the U.S. economy.

Is Easter really going to be that big of a deal? I mean I don't know about the rest of you, but the days are blurring into one for me. I can't imagine many people packing up the family then driving to a bach, to do what, stay mostly inside?

And because people won't pack the family and stay mostly inside, there's a risk of people packing the families and not staying inside.

There are reports of people already moving into baches.

Don't underestimate stupid.

There have already been reports in the media of dimwits holing up in their holiday homes in places like the Coromandel. I would not be surprised if the cops nab plenty more about to try the same.

Think that NZDF forces should be used to help with these checkpoints. Probably needs to be set-up right through to end of ANZAC holiday period so can also catch those who are leaving as some have appeared to have snuck in over the last few days.

Many of us are still working Mon-Fri from home so the days don't blur together quite so much, and a 4 day weekend is still meaningful.

Plenty of snake oil salesmen in New Zealand selling "essential oil" to protect from viruses.

Here's one, updated in the last week, with a rather blatant product name of "immunity" by Nudipoint:

"Protect your family and help your immune systems with this strong & effective blend that helps fight off harmful bacteria & viruses. We have combined highly antiseptic, antibacterial and immune boosting essential oils to stimulate the immune system by increasing blood and lymph circulation and generally supporting the different body systems."

I've reported them to the Commerce Commision.

They also sell hand sanitizer with only 14% alcohol, well below the recommended 60%.

And of course they are ignoring the "essential business" directive, which states "Natural health services are considered non-essential."

I'm not sure who I complain to about that.

At least this one from urban herbalist has essentials oils, and 70% ethanol.

It is very important for those working from home to take a full 4 day break over easter. They must maintain a work/home life balance for mental health.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

From someone I know I strongly suspect that some of these people genuinely believe in this quackery and are convinced they are actually selling something beneficial. Whether that makes it worse or better I don't know.

Does anyone have a NZ version of this? Very interested to see the trend over time of imported cases from our lapse border measures.

Not quite the same format but I think provides the info you are asking about?  A very different picture.  Taiwan = under control, NZ ... (well not quite the rosy picture some would have us believe?

Prepared for the data & analysis thread but posting here as may be of more general interest? (except will be buried several pages back in a few hours 🙃)
