A person that incurs avoidable fines is not wise, so that quote I incorrect. But you do what you feel you must and continue to contribute to the Consolidated Fund

Sorry i have not read through the whole thread but here is my view.

Most days of the week i see whats i call a speed trap. That is when an officer is hidden getting peoples speeds intentionally to pull them over and ticket them.
Thats known as revenue gathering, It doesn't make the road safer, It only teaches one person a lesson even if you could say that.

I see more of this when the lower speed tolerances are in force.

What i would see is an effective way to bring the average road users speed down and below the limit would be "Constables On patrol"
If i knew between Auckland and Warkworth there would be 5 police travelling each way between 8AM-8PM i would definitely not take my chances.
They have a resource (Car) and they should be using it to its full potential 24/7.
Like if i knew between Milford and Devonport there was 2 cars cruising 24/7 i wouldn't play up in my cars at all.

People need to be aware that there are "fog lights" and "driving lights". This often depends on the bulb that is fitted.

Either way I don't see an issue leaving these on. I do it all the time and frequently see others doing the same, appreciating that the former is technically illegal in good conditions. Never had an issue.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Forget the term "driving light" it has no status in the rules. Call them additional Main beams and it will help reinforce that they should be off if you are on dip beam. In most cases the low location of factory fog lamps is the wrong place for a main beam.

I don't see the point of lighting up the road immediately in front of the car. At speed anything in that zone is already too close and that light doesn't help your eyes focus on the zone further out.

Whats the point of leaving them on? Do they actually help you see? Or is it because they "look cool"?

They help me see better.

Do they blind oncoming cars - i don't think so. Because it's lighting up the road closer than the dipped lights are.
