Not that anyone obeys those 30km/h limits, which is something that really annoys me. When I follow the limit in one of those temporary roadworks zones people seem to behave as if I'm one of those annoying people who do 80km/h in a 100km/h zone.

I'm with you ... fortunately more police presence along Memorial Ave since Christmas, so lots of well-behaved drivers for that stretch in the morning at least.

Portable Gatso cameras stationed in roadworks are handy for that.

Do Gatso cameras always come with speed displays? Wouldn't mind people driving like cops and those cameras are around all the time. Probably less hands on cellphone usage, which I suspect is more distracting than occasionally flicking eyes to speedometer to check 4 km/h allowance.
By the way answering own question earlier in thread, have found Ulysse speedometer app pretty good for audible alarm.

Thanks. Live feedback might be cheaper (for the motorist!) and more likely to have desired instant effect...

The way the laws are, demerit points can only be issued by a sworn officer. Cameras cannot issue demerits because they don't have a badge.

Presumably sworn officers still use devices and not their bare eyeballs to determine speed ... so must be some other reason that Gatso cameras aren't counted as a device upon which demerit points may be issued.

No, it is because by paying the camera fine you are not admitting to speeding.

eg father pays fine when the ticket arrived but actually the daughter was driving. It is quite possible to set this up of course, but the Gov't needs to ensure the extra expense and time involved in matching up the driver is worth the effort.

Easily changed. NZ must be fairly unique not to issue points.

No, it is because by paying the camera fine you are not admitting to speeding.

In the UK the fine is issued in the first instance to the person to whom the vehicle is registered.

If that person was not the driver, there is a legal form on the fine notice which they sign and have to give the name of the driver if it was not them. The fine is then re-issued to that person. If they dispute it, then off to the Magistrate's Court you go and the fines go up automatically for the person found to have been speeding, as do the points. With an additional charge of suppling false information if you lied on the form....

how do you issue points via a speed camera If you cant prove who was driving?

my son could be 10 points from being disqualified and I could say it was me driving, there is no proof of that

Request the photo and see who was driving
In my previous job, if any of the pool cars got a spending camera fine then a picture was requested so the fine could be passed onto the driver

I was the passenger in a car when this happened - the driver was one of the UK consultants we had over at the time
