Good call. I was thinking about this after my last post, and that how (despite the nature of the thread) things have by and large been exceptionally good for over 23 pages. However, we seem to have reached a point where there seems to be a little bit of heat starting to creep in under a couple of collars - take a deep breath and keep it calm.

I'm finding this to be an excellent discussion and it's great to see the pro cons and cons of various theories being thrashed out, just don't start taking it personally or making it personal if you disagree with something. Carry on...

Yep the secure cockpit was a knee jerk reaction just like a lot of other security measures. All designed to make the travelling public feel safer without in many cases actually improving safety. There's been cases of one pilot being deliberately locked out of the cockpit. Solve one problem, create another.

The throttle/power lever quadrant and control column look like you common Saitek flight sim stuff worth about $100. Everything else is computer screens and a computer keyboard. Very basic even the MCP is a computer screen.

This is very basic the serious flight simmers have actual tactile MCP's with butons and knobs and and FMS input panel with actual buttons .

This is typical of what a serious flight simmer will build

Accepted - after (re)posting that image, I looked a bit harder, as it looked to me like there were three screens, and the overhead console and flight display were real, but yeah - they are screens.

No problem. When I first looked at the pic I thought that some bits were real, but on closer inspection......... Plus I'd seen what the serious guys have done so was able to compare.

But the US reported that the planes ACARS pings continued for many hours.
Before news about the pings, the Malaysians had reported an unidentified radar trace, which they lost at about the position of Pulau Perak - in the middle of the Malacca Strait.

So that fire theory doesn't work:
It depends on a cockpit fire severe enough to disable communications rapidly, but not severe enough to damage systems critical to keep the plane in the air - unpiloted.
If in the air for many hours (which seems to be an accepted fact now), then on the course to Pulau Perak, if it carried on, then the plane must have flown over Northern Sumatra - through Indonesian airspace. The Indonesians would have seen it. If it turned right when it was over Pulau Perak - as suggested (and generally accepted) did happen - then somebody was at the controls.

To get around that, then like the other theories, you have to keep adding to the story (ie the Indonesian Air Force are hapless, the US was wrong about the pings, the plane coincidentally turned just at the right time to avoid flying straight over Indonesian airspace)

That's what you get from non-secular pseudo-democracies - an "orchestrated litany of lies".

While I've got my bigot hat on, a couple of things bother me about MH370.

I wouldn't particularity trust a 27YO copilot who still lives at home with mom and pop, living across the road from a mosque where he frequently worships, who likes to use his position to impress dumb aussie blondes. Apart from the last bit, no doubt this makes him a "good boy", but IMO it's a bit weird.
The 52YO pilot, while probably the target for suspicion as his rather elaborate (understatement) home flight sim setup is a bit unusual, seems to have the hallmarks of being a serious geek (or nerd), but experienced, likable, and not of the typical age where one tends to be at risk of letting ideology get the better of you.
I don't trust the "secure cockpit" setup - it's a knee-jerk reaction to 9/11, but which presents other practical problems, with potential opportunities for "rogue pilots".

this is where i must vehementy object. just because a man frequents a mosque does not make him an extremist. he might turn out to be, but you cannot judge a man who frequents a mosque.

there is a guy in moscow (pronounced MARS-quar) who does not frequent a mosque.
there is a guy near pyongyang who keeps wanting to annihilate the USA who does not frequent a mosque.

i'm sorry that's not fair. period.
