Rikkitic:

Here is another one that seems to have escaped media notice: Trump’s environmentally taxing 757 commuter jet. Trump uses this full size commercial airliner to hop around short distances between his various homes and court hearings, most recently a quick jaunt from New Jersey to Washington and back. How much carbon does that 200 passenger behemoth squirt into the atmosphere as it shuttles a single admittedly overweight individual around? The trip only takes about 4 hours by car or environmentally responsible train.

Look at my uuuuuuge jet! Bigger than any other president's jet! As big as my electoral majority, as big as the attendance at my inauguration. Much bigger than the Biden crime family's jet. Bigger even than Hunter Biden's laptop. It's uuuuuge!

I love how he's projecting Russian politics on the rest of the world: "You can't let any politician advance unless you have kompromat on them, so you can control them". Yeah, that's Russia mate, not most of the rest of the world. There isn't enough kompromat in existence to control someone like Berlusconi, someone like Merkel probably doesn't have any compromat (she may have gone the wrong way down a one-way road once), and can you imagine trying to control someone like Winston?

The Washington Post - Opinion - Trump’s far-fetched defenses aren’t actually aimed at the courtroom

08 August 2023

You do not need a law degree to understand that conspiring with someone to commit a crime isn’t protected by the First Amendment, despite Donald Trump and his lawyer claiming the opposite. This is only one of their many half-baked defenses and excuses.

Trump’s defenses are far-fetched. So why make them? ...

Trump’s legal strategy in all three criminal cases so far - the Mar-a-Lago documents case pending in Florida, the state-level business records case pending in Manhattan and the election case - has rested not on winning in court but on delaying and then winning the election.

To do the latter, he feels compelled to give his supporters some rationale, however specious and silly, to excuse their voting for him.

The NY Times - Special Counsel Obtained Search Warrant for Trump’s Twitter Account

09 Aug 23

Prosecutors working for Jack Smith, the special counsel who has twice brought indictments against former President Donald J. Trump, obtained a search warrant [in January 2023] for Mr. Trump’s long-dormant Twitter account as part of their inquiry into his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, according to court papers unsealed on Wednesday. ...

The court papers did not reveal what prosecutors were looking for in Mr. Trump’s Twitter account, which the tech company shut down for nearly two years soon after the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. ...

But the papers indicate that prosecutors got permission from the judge not to tell Mr. Trump for months that they had obtained the warrant for his account.

[Twitter was fined $350,000 for missing the court-ordered deadline by three days.]

The NY Times - Special Counsel Proposes January Date for Trump’s Election Interference Trial

10 Aug 23

The prosecutors overseeing the indictment of former President Donald J. Trump on charges of conspiring to overturn the 2020 election asked a judge on Thursday to set a trial date in the case for early January, laying out an aggressive schedule for the proceeding.

In a motion filed to Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, who is presiding over the case in Federal District Court in Washington, the prosecutors laid out an ambitious timetable, saying they were ready not only to go to trial on Jan. 2, 2024, but were also poised to give Mr. Trump’s lawyers the bulk of their discovery evidence in the next two weeks or so.

Trump’s legal team will get to suggest its own timetable for the case next week and will surely object to the government’s proposal.

Now watch the Trump Team play interference ...  🙄

News Flash - Trump is thinking ...

The Washington Post -
Trump now adds ‘my opinion’ and ‘what I think’ to stolen-election claims

10 Aug 23

Donald Trump and his most loyal allies have spent the better part of three years falsely claiming that not only was the 2020 election stolen, but that this was proved.

After his federal indictment over attempts to overturn the election, however, the former president has seemingly undergone a subtle shift in his messaging.

He has begun to say that this is his opinion.

During a Newsmax interview Wednesday night, Trump added such a qualifier no fewer than six times in the space of 30 seconds. ...

I believe I won that election by many, many votes, many, many hundreds of thousands of votes." "That’s what I think.” “That’s my opinion, and it’s a strong opinion,” he added. “And I think it’s borne out by the facts, and we’ll see that.

To recap: “I believe.” “That’s what I think.” “That’s my opinion.” “It’s a strong opinion.” “I think.”

Trump saying "I believe" and "My opinion".

How much lower will he fall?

First it'll be "I did it", "I'm sorry" and "it's my fault"

Next it'll be "I've learned my lesson.", "Please have mercy."

Then "I'm too pretty for jail."

Because "opinion" is a valid defence in defamation cases, his team will probably say anything done against his "opinion" is against their First Amendment rights.

But these "opinions" were "facts" in January 2021.  🧐

It won't last though, he's listened to his latest lawyers right now but it's only a matter of time before we get a late-night all-caps post about how the election was stolen and that's a fact.
