Site based polls are absolutely open for manipulation. I know because I had a friend in Aus who had a script/bot to deliberately deadlock online polls on Australian news sites for hell of it (he was that sort of programmer).

Interesting interview yesterday of Jim Bolger, might have signaled a new direction.
I see Judith Collins has said no tax increases in RNZ radio interview this morning.
Jim Bolger did not mention the tax thing again when interviewed this morning to give his approval of Judith Collins selection though.

On Jerry Brownlee, were the people of Christchurch happy with his handling of the earthquake ?

https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon/audio/2018754854/jim-bolger-on-the-resignation-of-todd-muller

""
"We have to address the tax issues, now we've done the spending issue ... we're talking massive sums of money and nobody in any political party - even the commentators are not - saying 'well, how do we address this now?'"

He said the government had done a good job in ensuring that New Zealand did not have a Covid-19 problem of the scale that other countries have, "but we do have a problem in the scale of debt that we've loaded on ourselves".

He said tax and rate increases were the stark reality of what New Zealand had to do, and the discussion it must have, but much bolder leadership was needed as a result of Covid-19.
""

I actually think it is more worthwhile listening to the Judith Collins interview this morning on RNZ rather than Jim Bolger.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/421228/new-national-party-leader-judith-collins-national-won-t-repeat-any-mistakes

My takeaways were:

- No increases in taxes, and certainly no dismissing of future tax cut opportunities.

- Growth seems to be the only way National can see the country out of the fiscal hole which is in my view crazy.

- Certainly no new ideas on how they would have handled the pandemic differently, a modicum of praise on the governments and Jacinda's performance including the ability to communicate.

- Replacement of the RMA to something that they haven't spoken about in any detail.

- The same approach to health where funding only keeping up with population growth and keeping a lid on spending with shifting operations to the private sector.

- Nothing new or potential rollbacks on any climate change legislation.

I'm yet to see a single policy or point of difference that the National Party can offer other than new roads, dirty politics and future austerity as the way to pay down the debt.

Brash was a libertarian except for the racist dog whistling. He and Peters brought that crap front and centre in NZ politics.

I don't think Brash was deliberately a racist - just ideologically fixed on a position that racists really like.

Brownlee relished being spokesperson for Maori Affairs under Brash, as deputy leader of the opposition and an MP for the least Maori electorate in NZ - a deliberate poke in the eye.  That's how he is - and I'm sure he hasn't changed his spots.  "Haha - I can speak Maori - tahi, rua, toru ..."

BS. Brash founded Hobson's pledge. He's fixated on race, and not in a good way.

Let me guess they polled Hosking, Garner, Richardson and some random people in Tamaki

What a silly thing to say.

Not really. It's a "poll" with a margin of error of +/-100%

What do you think a scientifically conducted poll will show? My guess Collins will poll somewhere around 10%

Seriously? She's going to appeal to more National voters than Bridges and Muller. I'd say she's a lock for at least 30% straight off the bat.

Yip. Preferred Pm is always a nightmare poll for opposition leaders. Ardern polled in the 30s in the lead up to the 2017 election which was very unusual. In 2014 Shearer and Cunliffe were in the 10-15% range, which is what Collins should expect against very popular prime minister.

It's been debated a thousand times before whether that was "racist" - without any apparent consensus.  He was a libertarian - it's true to form - libertarianism is a cult. I don't want to open up a hornet's nest - so if we can agree to not quite agree and leave it there, hopefully it won't be "an election issue".

We disagree on many things so this wouldn't be unusual ;)

I completely agree that I hope this won't be an election issue. I haven't read if Textor Crosby are involved this year, if they are all bets are off.

It's thoroughly amusing to see Mike Hosking and NZME is now funding the Maori Party. I wonder if they will name him on their donor list...

Pandemic. Their want was to get out of Level 4 after two weeks.

Re what I bolded, yes she stated that. With international tourism locked out for a long long time, the economy is already behind, so how can we rely on growth? So the tax take is already in the negative. I hate single sentience rhetoric where the only value is it sounds good, yet its pie in the sky. Its already factually incorrect, this particular example.

So, leaks from National MP's are still occurring.  Still disenchantment from within the ranks. Ironic given JC has historically leaked to attack Labour, and to attack her own.

Some things never change.

I'll be curious to see how she responds, Toddy did what he could but I think there were one too many leaks for him to handle.

What were the internal leaks during Muller's term? Seems to me all this is relatively normal mps talking to media.
