More from Trump:

"In addition, Kamala is allowing virtually unlimited numbers of migrants to enter and be released at the press of a button through her phone app for illegal immigrants.

They have a phone app so that people can come into our country.

These are smart immigrants, I guess, because most people don’t have any idea what the hell a phone app is, but they do.

These are very intelligent immigrants"

If they are so intelligent they should be welcomed in. America really needs a smarts transfusion.

Sir John Key's stable genius, fit to be leader of free world because of tax cuts for the rich.

Just had another brilliant idea...

'One really violent day': Trump slammed for 'Purge' rhetoric on crime
https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/world/donald-trump-suggests-one-violent-day-for-police-to-combat-retail-crime/

""
Former President Donald Trump has suggested that police should be given “one really violent day” to combat retail crime, escalating his rhetoric on cracking down on crime if he returns to the White House.
""

A spin on the Horror movie 'The Purge' , except its the Polices ritual day to be 'Really Violent'

The average Trump supporters idea of 'really violent' may be 'really violent',
and its a citizens duty to take their rifle and a truckload of ammo to help the Police to be really violent.

John is right Trump is a leader, John should have thought of that when he was in charge.

So any thoughts on the debate? I didn't see all of it, but was pleased to see they both shook hands at the start and finish; they may disagree but at least they can be polite to each other.

James came across as a slick car salesman, while Tim stumbled a bit at the start I think he got a bit better as things went on.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/live-updates/walz-vance-debate-updates-vp-candidates-set-showdown/?id=114380625 >> an ABC News timeline

Also just saw this (as well as the orange buffoon backing out of a 60 Minutes interview - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-election-special-harris-trump-oct-7/ ):

After VP debate, Trump reiterates he doesn't want another debate

After the vice-presidential debate ended, and as Harris’ campaign continues to call for another debate between Harris and Trump, the former president is reiterating that he’s not interested in doing another debate.

"I beat Biden, I then beat her, and I’m not looking to do it again, too far down the line. Votes are already cast," Trump said in the post.

He's gotta be running scared of Harris - here we have the preening narcissistic not wanting to strut his stuff again? Come on 🙄

I think most media agrees.

Bad news:
  • Trump VP Vance won the debate

  • Vance's best moment: “Margaret, the rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact check,” he said. “And since you’re fact checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on.”

  • Vance did a decent job of deflecting his bosses anti-immigrant "cat eating" position

Good news:
  • it was boring (and Americans are easily bored)

  • the debate will be forgotten by next week

  • Democrat Tim Walz was less polished and experienced, but gave a decent performance.

  • Trump VP tried hard not to be weird, and it’s made him seem more menacing still

  • Democrat Tim Walz gave solid answers on reproductive rights and Trump's attempted overthrow of democracy
The public saw no clear winner in Vance’s clash with Walz, according to a CNN Instant Poll

And possibly the election. The betting odds now put Trump ahead by a whisker.

I think there was a clear winner here, unlike with the earlier debates.

Yes I saw that they both were fairly strong in their specific areas. James did manage to "humanise" himself a little better, but I don't think it's going to make much difference to the overall election result; usually this one doesn't.

I thought this story looking at each of the candidates body language was interesting: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/10/02/walz-vance-vp-debate-body-language-analysis-00182127

Also - a case of James's words in the debate coming back to bite him not-that-much later on (and very effectively!): https://www.rawstory.com/jd-vance-debate-harris-new-ad/

I think Trump was the only winner.

Vance was the better debater and he made it look friendly, despite not answering many questions with diversion tactics. However this is the only reason Trump picked him, someone not seen as a hawk or a psycho. and this is exactly why I think Harris made a HUGE mistake not picking a more clinical and competent Shapiro, not to mention he could have won votes on the solo rallies and the big one, he would have delivered Pennsylvannnia (and prob the rest of the rust belt).

Vance - better used car salesman slick

Waltz - answered most of the questions honestly

Pretty much even, but the only winner once again was to make Trumps campaign seem less hostile. BUT, I cant see it changing things too much as usual.

I look forward to the annual 60mins sit down. which despite being a tradition, only Harris has accepted, which could be to her favour. I hope she points out lack of Policy etc, ie the other campaign is all hostile hot air.

I hope she points out that Trump is an adjudicated rapist who hung out with convicted pedophiles, bragged about how he liked to walk into a dressing room full of underage girls and grabs women by the p****, owes nearly $100M to the woman he was proven to have assaulted, owes nearly $500M in fines for persistent fraud, awaits sentencing on 34 criminal convictions, and faces at least three more criminal trials including the theft of national nuclear plans and other top state secrets and a conspiracy to commit insurrection (where 180 pages of summary evidence have just been released).

...Any one of those should be enough to outright disqualify him from being put in charge of a paper bag, let alone the USA.

That was quick, hasnt even made it to the Jim Heath playlist on YT (if people want to watch campaign ads).

Kamala ads have overall been way too soft and mushy, but now and then you get ones like this one just after 'A Heartbeat Away' which shoes senator Kelly saying hes concerned Vance is a heart beat away from Presidency, then they add some meat to why in the add.

I think her "Together" is just a wasted ad and does the opposite trying to shine a good light on immigrants, now is not the time for that, she needs to be Far more clinical in attacking Trump, pointing out WHY he is the end of the US as we know it and more of him having no Policy. His ads are attacking her and making her look a joke. She cannot afford to play nice at a time like this.

she has barely attacked his credibility, but he is attacking hers nearly every ad. even attacking vance is not the point. her first ad kinda suggested hes trying to avoid jail time but it wasnt even a warm up and was near a month ago. whoever is doing her ads is failing her.

kingdragonfly: the debate will be forgotten by next week

It was between two also-rans that you'll never hear from again after the election [*].  I suspect more people outside the US watched it than in the US.

[*] Without Googling it, who was Bill Clinton's VP?  Dubya's VP?

Mike Pence is probably the most famous VP in many decades.
First to have horde chasing him through capital building looking to hang him.

While his best buddy the President is texting what a jerk he is for not nullifying an election result.
Also texting love to the lynch mob as beautiful people or some such.

I can see why Sir John Key thinks Trump is such a worthy President. :-)

Otherwise Pence was already fading into the wallpaper.
Now he may always be remembered as the VP they wanted to hang.

I can't remember Bill Clinton's, but George W Bush's was Dick Cheney, famous for shooting a friend in the face during a hunting expedition.
