trig42,

Yes I do have ADSL. UFB will not be an issue where I am as the company that is laying it down has just indicated that where we are is not in the plans for next 18 months.

We send a Chorus tech over to install a master filter, this get's installed in your house, from there once the order is marked as completed we switch your line over to VDSL. No digging, just maybe running a new lead for your VDSL modem :)

It's a tidy job though, nobody will notice.

Is it possible to bridge the VDSL modem?

I run an OpenWRT based firewall and want the IP address to terminate their rather than on the Telecom supplied modem.

Yes, I am doing this right now with the Thomson modem supplied using a Mikrotik Routerboard.

You can set it up through a wizard on the Thomson.

Excellent; that's something that annoys me about many ISP-supplied modems so it's good to see that there's an easily-accessible option.

Now to convince Chorus to roll out VDSL where I am...

Ooh, quick caveat - the firmware I am using was pre-release... I hope this feature (the wizard) stayed in for the final revision... Michael, you know if that's the case?

Cheers - N

I am bridging the TG589vn v2 -- no problem at all using the wizard. I'm using it with an AirPort Extreme bridged.

Have signed for this today - time set up for install next Monday.

Already have master filter and current set up is a Draytek Vigor 120 bridged to an Apple TimeCapsule (most recent vertical version).

Can I assume from comments from you N that it should be easy to just swap out the Vigor 120 with the new Thomson modem set up into bridge mode?

Yes, that is exactly what I did (I had a Draytek before). The TG589vn is ADSL and VDSL but it can't run ADSL in bridged mode, so you will need to bridge it once your VDSL is up.

Well, I had no issues doing it... The wizard was simple and I accepted all the defaults (as far as I remember)

We're all booked in here also. Was going to upgrade the master splitter myself, but it's the same charge even if there's already a compatible xDSL master splitter already installed.

Not sure, I need to wait for my VDSL >.< but from what I've seen it has stayed.

wow i can get VDSL!!! (duh ... despite chorus saying i can't: thanks vexxxboy!)

now one question: i only want VDSL because my ADSL is a bit congested at peak hours, the PING is not great at peak hours (erm what i mean is there is a delay after you click on a link say facebook or youtube or anything for that matter), everything is slower at peak hours

will moving from Telecom ADSL -> VDSL fix that?

yes my modem stats are perfect

also why does one need to "optimize" their VDSL router?
