Just got off the phone with Telecom.

They took the issues I had down and they are apparently looking in to it. I will await their confirmation if it ever gets fixed.

I am still having issues with downloading podcasts.

I know that podcasts are hosted on the producers own servers and iTunes just provides an easy means of subscription.

At 7:30am a 90.8 mb podcast that was started at 06:45am has only downloaded 12.0 mb and has an estimated 66 minutes remaining.

this is a slap in the face!

Its 8:03AM and TVNZ On-Demand still dosn't work properly.  Does that mean it isn't on my end?  Most on BigTime tell me they can stream at 700k no problems.  I can't even do 300k.

Torrents still work fine though.

I just had another unpleasant experience with the Telecom Broadband Helpdesk - as soon as I describe my problem (extrememly slow download speeds via itunes) they shut down, either hang up or in this mornings instance - transfered me to a voicemail (that wasn't even in english...)

It seems all the complaining is having some effect.  In the last couple of days they have started managing some download sites that used to escape it :(

So it seems my download speeds on certain sites have been dropped from about 850kilobytes down to about 120 kilobytes. Quite a massive drop and had I known I would be getting those kinds of speeds I wouldn't have joined this plan and left Orcon. i realized they were going to tweak etc but a reduction of 8 times the speed isn't a tweak.

The plan seems to be steadily getting worse, anyone had any luck getting out of telecom without paying the disconnection fee? I am quite keen to head back to orcon and pay extra $$ but get decent speeds. I think a 8x drop in speed would be grounds for not paying a fee surely?

Wow, have they fixed steam now?
I'm getting speeds of 50-100kB/s now.

Granted the speeds only last in bursts of 5-10 seconds then 5-10 seconds of 2kB/s, but it seems to be running alot faster.

I have noticed a speed drop from 800-900 kbps down to 100 kbps for HTTP downloads, its getting worse for sure

Yeah, what are the chances of getting off the plan without paying the fee?

On a slightly related note, how hard is it to set up a different modem than the speedtouch telecom provided me with?

maybe that is their big announcement today? the reason they have suspended trading...
They are going to announce they have butchered big time http downloads?

quite an appropriate name for the package now because you need a big lot of time to download anything now.... :P

I'll let you know how I get on, I have written them an email and will see what they say.

As for setting up another modem/router they are usually very easy to setup, most have wizards these days but even those that don't are pretty easy.  Only a few basic settings involved

Getting out without paying a fee? not likely without presenting a case of unreasonable speeds most likely. You can however change to a different plan on telecom, no hassles with that.

Setting up a different modem for telecom is easy, they have a page on their site with all the modem settings that are needed
