Movieman:

Unfortunately newer TV's don't support 3D anymore, but I think that some of the BD players still do (not sure). If you have a TV with 3D capabilities, you need to hold on to it as long as possible

I know some projectors are 3D capable, as I was looking at the options, should our TV die on us.
Not cheap though...

Have seen a couple of movies recently:

Ghosted on Apple TV+ starring Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Adrien Brody and others

Not bad light entertainment/action/romcom/comedy/spy film.

7/10

Operation Fortune (Ruse de Guerre) on iTunes

Guy Ritchie film starring Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, Hugh Grant Josh Hartnett and Cary Elwes.

Good, fast paced, turn-off-your-brain action film in the style of Guy Ritchie (go figure).

I like Hugh Grant as a geezer that's truly evil and unhinged, whilst still a little camp.

6/10

Antman & The Wasp: Quantumania

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly alongside Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jonathon Majors  do another round of Marvel stuff.

I didn't really enjoy it, other than Rudd's usual good performance, but it was all over the place and a bit shambolic.

Bill Murray's cameo was OK. Not quite on the level of Benicio Del Toro's in Guardians of the Galaxy, however.

4/10

Marlowe.

8/10.

Very enjoyable period caper. Refreshing lack of the re-education that a lot of films have suffered from in recent years.

Just good simple entertainment.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 - at the movies.

Great finish to the trilogy. Sad to see this is it for most of the characters but with James Gunn now head of DC it won't be the same but hopefully we'll see some of them pop up in other MCU movies. Well the ones that survive anyway - JK...or am I?

The GOTG universe is different to most of the MCU (which is set on earth) so I do hope they have some sort of spin off.

Nice that the movie is self-contained (except reference to previous GOTG and Avengers movies) - no multiverse or setups for any future MCU movies here. A refreshing change.

As usual great soundtrack, however sometimes it did feel a it overbearing, loud and unnecessary.

Awesome hallway fight scene - probably one of the best in the MCU. On par with the Kingsman fight scenes and maybe even John Wick.

Watch the GOTG Christmas special to spot some cameos and extra jokes.

I've been suffering from super hero fatigue of late so it's nice to see a decent one for a change. Probably the best MCU movie since Endgame.

Dungeons and Dragons - Honor Among Thieves

It was OK. Fun. Full of action and the CGI was good.
Take your brain out and enjoy. 5/10

Black Panther - Wakanda Forever

Second time around this was better than I remember. 7/10

Watched several movies lately after going through one of those periods when I just can't find the time (Gardening, Cruising and Walking 😁)

65 (2023) - Absolutely dreadful film about two survivors of a spaceship crash on Earth, at the time that Dinosaurs were about to become extinct. Adam Driver will forever regret having this film in his portfolio. 2/10

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Honor Among Thieves (2023) - An enjoyable fantasy romp, with Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez hamming it up. Plenty of action and the occasional good one-liner, made this a fun watch. 7/10

SHARPER (2023) - Another solid Apple Original starring Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan among others. With more twists than a corkscrew, this film kept me entertained throughout. 7/10

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: Quantumania (2023) - Marvel once again deliver a pile of incoherent rubbish. Far too much extremely bright CGI, a villain that can't act and a script that could have been penned by someone from Mills & Boon. 3/10

These short reviews are my opinion only.

Evil Dead Rise. For a 96 minute movie this was a slog. Boring, predictable, and not at all scary. 4/10.

The Pope's Exorcist. The parts that were decent were lifted pretty much straight out of the far superior William Friedkin classic, so it's hard to give a lot of credit to the creators of this. The bits that were more original were also the weakest parts. And a very bizarre ending tacked on that appears to be trying to setup some kind of cinematic universe. Points awarded for Russel Crowe seemingly travelling internationally on a Lambretta scooter. 5/10.

Cool Hand Luke - DVD - 7.5/10

It's aged pretty well. Paul Newman super cool (not quite Steve McQueen) and George Kennedy puts in a signature performance. Also a very young Dennis Hopper.

Evil Dead Rise was terrible. Gore, and body horror and then ridiculous moments which might have been trying to be funny?  My wife (who watches horror) and I stopped 2/3rds of the way through. Only actually watched it because it was filmed in NZ. If you want actually 1/2 decent horror movies filmed in NZ  - X and Pearl are both decent though slasher rather than horror maybe? Not 'supernatural' anyway.

Popes Exorcist was a bit dumb, saved by solid performances, and yeah, ending was a little odd. Worth it if you're a little bored.

If you're expecting genuine horror from an Evil Dead movie you are looking in the wrong place. It's horror comedy, a very different thing.

Chef (2014)

Jon Faverau as a chef refinding his way personally and professionally. A stellar cast (Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, John Legiuzamo, Bobby Cannavale, Amy Sedaris, Oliver Platt and Robert Downey Junior) with a predictable plot but very well done and highly entertaining. The food part is very well done. It’s the sort of move that doesn’t get made any more which sucks.

This had none of the campy fun of the original Bruce Campbell ones. It didn’t come across as trying to be funny.

The original one didn't either, but it also wasn't actual horror.

It's more so the 2nd one onwards that gets a bit silly from my memory.
First one sticks to its genre of horror/fantasy.

The remake of the first was great, we really enjoyed it.
