Technofreak:

I ordered something online from Office Max on Tuesday. It was showing as "Ready for next collection" at 10:30 yesterday, it's still showing as "Ready for next collection". New Zealand Post haven't even picked it up.

My wife is waiting for a parcel, it's been sitting at the local depot ready for delivery for over 3 days.

My package turned up yesterday after still showing as waiting for collection Friday night. Obviously it got picked up without being scanned.

My wife's package is still at the local depot waiting to be delivered.

CourierPost is really weird at present.

Anything I have had sent from Auckland (To Christchurch) is quick.

International (AliExpress Standard Shipping) takes as long or longer from Auckland than it did to get to Auckland!

Local Delivery in Christchurch now takes days!

Tracking is minimal scans now.

Sad Amazon Au now uses NZ Post to deliver. Don't think I will get my order soon.

Amazon US, for the latest delivery, has gone with the laughably named Fastway, so it took four days from the US to here and over a week to cross town with Fastway.

It's ok. Fastway have rebranded as Aramex.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

When you get something delivered and the courier company and/or courier have gone out of their way to provide service in difficult times, for example the Post Haste delivery I mentioned earlier, do send them a thank-you note:

It's been a challenging time for couriers and staff dealing with the extreme freight volumes so it means so much to hear positive comments from our customers.

My experience with Amazon/Aramex (before the delta lockdown) was that they were reasonably quick getting through customs, but their driver casually dropped the package into my lawn.

For me, Courier Post have been excellent, no obvious signs of delay at all across numerous parcels. DHL has been exceptional too, took only two days for a parcel to get from Melbourne to my door, a full day earlier than what I already thought seemed too fast to be true.

Mainfreight on the other hand is a total disaster. A large item was picked up from the local seller within a day, but since then zero movement in 10 days. The Mainfreight team have no idea when they will even find the item in their warehouse to begin the sorting process, let alone begin to arrange a delivery date. For a $60 delivery fee I don't believe I'm asking too much to expect an estimate to be provided, irrespective of what the date will be.

I'm surprised by the variance in service, most seem to be doing a staller job, and the drivers are polite and in high spirits despite what's going on around them/us, while others are crumbling.

Heh it must be a bit of a crapshoot cos i've just had issues with DHL coming from the USA. Fedex from Melbourne was inline with you, 3 days which was awesome. I am wondering if business addresses are being prioritized over residential as most of my stuff is B2B

Particularly NZ Post, I don't think I've seen a company stall so much mail before.

Has the price of sending stuff gone up recently? Track and trace international = $48?!? It cost more than the item! I asked the guy at the Post Office if it was due to coronavirus but he said no.

Plus there was a LOT of paperwork to fill out, way more than there used to be. I had to complete an export document?? Just to send a few bars of chocolate, as a gift? Crazy.

It's always been outrageously expensive to send items from NZ, even if only to Australia. AU to NZ is costly too. Perhaps with fewer flights coming and going there is higher demand for precious little outbound air freight capacity?

Does makes you wonder when you see how little it costs to get items (granted by sea) from China/Aliexpress costing under $5 for small to medium size items.

That is the Universal Postal Union thing. The basic logic is that local post agents charge a high price on outbound parcels to cover the cost of delivering inbound international parcels, so they won't need to negotiate the delivery cost for inbound parcels with foreign postal agents.

Also, there are subsidies more developed countries pay to less developed countries, e.g. China. That's why Trump's government threatened to withdraw from the union, as the subsidy not only become a significant cost for UPS but also affect the balance of trade.

That was your mistake right there, doing it in store.

Not only do they have an additional $5 surcharge to do it in store, but the only tracked option is Courier, while online you can do Economy Tracked which is about half the price of the online Courier.

"A few bars of chocolate", ok so lI'll guess about 500grams, in a package 12x23x6cm, Economy Tracked to Australia would have cost you $17.01 and normally be there in about 10 working days, currently it's more like 14-20.

Oh crap, I didn't even know about that option. I'll do it online next time then (just pick up the bag from the post office in that case). Thanks for the tip.

I have a parcel waiting to be picked up by Aramex. It is a wrongly sent parcel being actioned as freight forward return by the supplying company. The company applied to Aramex and I received an email to log into the Aramex website to confirm return details. This was done 9/11 and their pickup date was today at 9am. Got a phone call at 1pm today to check if the parcel was ready (which it had been since 9/11) and that they would attempt to pick up by Monday 15/11. So basically since you are not a commercial business they expect you to be ready for their collection sometime over the next 4 days between the hours of 8am and 8pm after they had a time pre arranged for 4 days. Bit large and valuable just to sit on the front doorstep until they get around to it.

Courier Post have done several large parcels ex PB Tech Akl into small town Waikato pretty much overnight and 3 days at most which I would consider pretty good as their automatic eta calculator online always calculates it as 7 days.

From my experience your freight and courier turnaround is very much dependent on the size and influence of the sending company, unless you use Peter Baker transport transiting the Waikato. PBT Hamilton seemed to have had an uncanny knack of loosing and destroying nearly everything in dealings with "me".
