There can be no mistaking 0600 hours with 1800, even at the South Pole.
Bzzt! Wrong! Divide by zero error.
0600 and 1800 are meaningless (or perhaps the *same* time) at the South Pole. At the South (and North) Pole, it is all times, all at once.

'Dick Smith' is Kogan - based in Australia. That will be where your HDMI cable will have come from. No excuse for it taking ten days, though I suspect the 'free freight' on it will have meant they sent it the cheapest (read:slowest) way possible. You could have got one from aliexpress with free freight in about the same time frame maybe.
I knew DS was Kogan, and knew it was coming from Australia. That said, I think the cable could have swum to New Zealand on its own and it would have made it here faster. As for cheapest=slowest, I've shipped stuff from Amazon using the slowest/cheapest way possible, and it's still not as bad (considering it's coming from a lot further away.
What gets me is the way they seem to be ignorant of global competition. While DS aren't trumpeting this complaint, I hear lots of businesses talking about how online competition is killing their business. This seems to me to be based on a very antiquated approach to business - "if you build it, they will come", and that it's enough just to be in business to make money. Like it or lump it, consumers have access to much greater choice, and it's no longer about two shops on the high street. Everyone is competing against everyone else, and if you aren't prepared to up your game then don't expect sympathy from me when your business folds. To me, DS/Kogan falls into this category - they probably won't go bust anytime soon, but if they can't drop a cable in my letterbox inside of a few days, then they're not really trying hard enough. Not when they are many other options (Aliexpress is one, forgot about them) who do so much better for the same quality and the same or better pricing.

Lizard1977: What earthly reason would you need an electric blanket to be "on", but not producing any heat. If it was getting too hot and you wanted to turn down the heat you could drop it down to 1, but if you drop it down to 0, why not just use the off switch, which has the same function?
temp scale of 0 is useful for my elec blanket.....so you can set it to come on high heat for a couple of hours then drop to 0 (or 1 or whatever). 0 just means off though.
If it was sophisticated enough to program multiple temps for different times, then yes. But it isn't that clever. All that would happen in my situation is it would be on 0 for anything from 1-9 (or 12) hours.

..., duty free it’ll only be about $5 cheaper than what I can get it for at the local Big Barrel store on special.
Duty on booze was reduced when GST was introduced (but your DF booze is also GST-free). Duty free shops pay exorbitant rentals to airport companies for the monopoly to fleece those still living in the 1980s. (Did you know that now you're allowed 3 * 1.25L bottles per person?)
Brandy generally contains 35-60% alcohol by volume (70-120 US proof). (Wikipedia)
I suspect your Big Barrel "brandy" may be somewhat lower in alcohol content, but assuming you're comparing Calvados with Calvados... the minimum duty on 1.25L of brandy would be $22.66. Or, to put it another way, the DF shop has an extra $17.66 markup over BB's special.
Thanks for that. I buy Chatelle or St Remy (37.5%). 1 Litre on special at BB is usually about $34 - $36. Using that duty calculator, the duty alone on that would be close to $20, there's GST (before or after the duty ??), it's imported..they can't be making a lot on it.
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

The earth is not mounted on bearings, therefore the poles rotate with it. It is not all times, all at once, but each time, one after the other, just like at the equator. The only difference is that you can see into the next time zone.

Maybe not. 0600 and 1800 are clock concepts, not astronomical ones, and I believe clocks at the South Pole are on NZ time. Whether 5am on the clock is in the morning is harder if morning is defined as before noon which is astronomically undefined. And it can surely be both daytime or nighttime. I think.

By definition, the Poles *are* the axis of rotation. They are where all the lines of longitude (and most time zones) meet.
If you are standing precisely at the South Pole, what time zone are you in? None.
What time is it relative to GMT? Divide by zero.
What is local time? Any. All. Who knows?
I would argue that it is one time on your belly, another on your back. You would have to be infinitely skinny not to be affected by the rotation.

Yep. Same as where is North? Every way.
Now, in practice we don't saunter down to the pole, and reset our watches nor throw them away. But the fact is, at the Pole there is no timezone based on the convergence of all longitudes.

Fred99: The influenza strain presumed to be A/H3N2 which is rampant in Chch, which really ruined my weekend, and for which the influenza A/H3N2 strain included in this years flu shot seemed to offer no protection at all.
Haha you actually believe flu shots work, never had one and never had the flu. Know plenty of people who get them every year and they are always dreadfully ill.
Many people who have a cold are under the misconception that they have 'the flu'.
Influenza is a serious illness. Vaccinations only offer (not guarantee) protection against a few particular strains of influenza the WHO* think are most likely to be prevalent that year. These vaccinations will not work against other strains of influenza and they will not work at all against any other form of illness.
I personally know of only one person who has contracted influenza in the last 6 or so years. She ended up in ICU for a few days! Over that same time period I know a huge amount of people who have contracted a cold and ended up moaning endlessly, and quite incorrectly, about having 'the flu'.
I get offered flu shots free every year through work and don't hesitate to take them...
Whether I have autism is debatable, tourettes not so much. [/joke]
* not the band!
I for one won't get fooled again by the flu jab.
Rikkitic: Only fuzzy-brained Anglo types use the archaic am/pm designations anyway. The advanced nations of the world do not have to re-use the same numbers because they can't count past 12. They know how to tell time the grown-up way, with the 24 hours god intended. There can be no mistaking 0600 hours with 1800, even at the South Pole.
Fred99: The actual position of the axis of rotation wobbles by about 9 metres.
God made the Earth this way to confound people involved in discussions like this.
People who insist on bringing invisible friends into conversations.
