Hi i have two computers. I think one is filled with viruses spyware and stuff. Is it possible for my othre computer to obtain these viruses spyware and others if both are connected to the internet at the same time? There connected both via enthernet cable, by a Dynalink RTA1025W router.

please explain. Do u mean if I am putting some files onto the other computer via the internet.?

I dont see how the virus can travel up the enthernet cable and from the router go through the other ethernet cable and into my the clean computer.

Yes it can? for sharing files between computers or ,'yes it can' for viruses can just go to another computer on a network by its self going through the ethernet cable, router then to the other computers ethernet cables.

How can the virus spread to the other computer if im not sharing filies between them though? Where is the link between them?

Some malware (worms) will replicate its code through network connetions. If both PCs use the same username and password then access would be automatically granted. Or if they have shared folder then access is automatic within the same network.

There are lots of ways.

what are the chances ive got some thing harmful. The computer I think may be infected with alot of things hasnt been windows updated for years and has had no antivirus. Its using windows xp.

The other computer is all up to date with vista windows updates is regually fully scanned with avast. and uses the windows firewall plus windows defender.

Is the other computer (the up to date one) perfectly clean? if it is very secure and avast has reported 0 harmful threats as well as windows defender, even though its on a wired network with a potentially infected PC.

ATM im installing Service pack 3 on the xp computer and going to do a full scan with avast. How can i be sure ive totaly removed all harmful treats and my other computer wont catch anything from the other computer that surposely has some harmfull stuff on it.

How can I make a seperate username and password for each computer?

I've found avast seems to struggle when it comes to actually removing viruses, in most cases from my personal experience the virus seems to outsmart it and continue replicating itself, which avast keeps detecting repeatedly.

If there is nothing of ultimate importance that isnt easy to backup, in a case like this a windows reinstall is usually a good idea, saves the hassle of trying to remove them manually, you get to start fresh and get a bit of a speed boost too.

Avast has never once reported a harmful treat on the pc so i hope there is none.
Is there any other free software to help protect me?

I recommend "Malwarebytes AntiMalware" to pickup any other potential threats - also you might want to have a look at SmitFraudFix which can flush out a lot of dodgy settings put in place by malware/viruses however its not very friendly looking to use, ensure you read the instructions.

CCleaner always helps too flushing out any garbage files.

I just scanned with noadware and it found 221 threats. I go to delete then it tells me iI need to buy it to delete them. U reckon its just made up those to get people to buy the product?

avast found around 20 and malwarebytes anti malware found around 20 also.

What else can i use?
