I've been with nznet for almost 15 years. 99% of the time they are fantastic, great speeds and reliable. But every now and then they will have an issue and that's when it all comes undone. There biggest issue is the way they deal with a problem, just be honest and communicate with your customers... easy really :-)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

I have been lucky this time around as it looks like I have only been down for about 6 hours (but it is still a bit up and down at the moment) and I am now back using my normal DNS settings (through OpenDNS.com).? Over Easter I?had a total outage that lasted for 9 days when they apparently changed providers.? I have also had many, many outages that last from a few minutes to a few hours.? I have always tried to weigh?up the poor service and poor uptime with the low price and unlimited data but I think I need to be looking for better options.? I use around 300GB a month (we run a free HOT Spot for?our Cafe customers) and I am keen to know if anyone has any?suggestions for an alternative ISP that is cost effective for 300-400GB a month.? I have just looked at the Slingshot Unlimitted?plan - it looks good.? Speed is not the most critical factor for us?- but reliability is pretty important.? Any pointers would be appreciated.? Thanks.

Pushing that sort of volume?

It's simple; hit up all the major ISP's and compare their plans for the volume you need. Average all the ones that're roughly the same and there's the market rate.

That's a horrendous amount of volume on ADSL.

ICONZ's biggest plan is 100Gig/Mo $150.
Orcon does 305Gig for $315/mo. as their apparent biggest.

Or you can get business-grade broadband and get a plan that gives you unmetered domestic and chargable international. At the $300/mo figure you can get 2M Symmetrical HSNS?

There are options that aren't ADSL and if you're using it for business purposes and have a dependency on it, you need to shell out for a product that has an SLA attached.

No signature to see here, move along...

Read through these forums and you'll find many people complaining about Slingshot's poor speeds (at times) and bad customer service. It's simple, you get what you pay for. We have 100GB with Telecom, and while it's not the cheapest, the support is fantastic and it's very reliable.

You are right, but how do you call a company that is happy to cash the money of its clients, but does not provide the services it is paid for, nor explains why the internet and email and VOIP are down since 3 days ?

That is interesting. It is not what New Zealands customers stated in the recent extensive review of ISP's in New Zealand by consumer.org.nz

No, my answer was clear. You are wrong. They are not cheap, they are average, i said.
Their prices will be around the median, 50% of the ISP's are more expensive, 50% are cheaper.
Hence your statement that they are cheap is wrong.

That is interesting. It is not what New Zealands customers stated in the recent extensive review of ISP's in New Zealand by consumer.org.nz

Yet interestingly it's a general view held by almost every well informed and experienced person in the industry in NZ.

I'm not suggesting that a large number of smart, experienced people in the industry know better than a Consumer survey/review... Oh hang on. Yes I am.
