i dont want cheep stuff. i just want my phone back on! its not reconizing the dns number and its been off since monday when the first incident happened. you may be happy with them but i am not.

I don't think any of us are happy with them per-se, iirc hotkiwi already changed company to Telecom.

The point is people are bashing NZNet as a company without any real facts and categorising NZNet customers as morons for choosing them in the first place, which is uncalled for and frankly childish behaviour.

im changing companys but it would take till next week. normally takes like 4 days or more for change over down here [christchurch]

Word is that NZnet have had a stream of upset customers visiting them over the past day to see what's going on. I have heard from one of those unhappy customers that they suspect NZnet is in trouble.

Has anyone heard anything to the contrary?

Disclosure: I work for CallPlus and we have had several calls this morning from NZnet customers wanting to change providers.

I think it's quite clear NZNet are in trouble. But it's not like they are some flash in the pan, garbage ISP reseller. This is a compmany that has been around for over a decade, and I'm pretty confident they'll get their act together.

Well I think the facts in this thread are pretty damning. Maybe you disagree though?

I'm not trying to suggest anyone's a moron. I'm probably appearing to be quite elitist, though, which I should apologise for. I'm not going to be all high-and-mighty.

I have not suggested (at least, I don't think I have) that when they work they don't work great. I'm sure they do.

It's just personally, I can't understand how people can look at a company like NZNET's website, read some of their past history, see their discounted prices (or, large bandwidth limits for equivalent prices) and then see what's just happened and still believe that they're a good, solid, reputable company.

That's been the only point I've been trying to make. If I appear to be mocking you for your ISP choice then I apologise. I wholeheartly agree that "My ISP is better than YOUR ISP" is a childish and foolish discussion.

Fair enough but I disagree with some of those things.

First off their website, well quite frankly the websites of many ISPs in this country are poor. Yes NZNets is a weak effort but damn even Orcon's site is pretty bad. Slingshot/WorldNet are awful. Haven't really looked at any others but NZNet is not alone here.

As for their history, when this unlimited plan was first being publicised there was a 4-5 page thread on these very forums with people asking for opinions on NZNet and the majority of the feedback was positive. I did try to do my research beforehand and it seemed like a decent company. After being on Telecom/Slingshot/Worldnet I would rate NZNet the best of the ISP's I've used (even though by real company standards they are below average).

As for the events of the last few days clearly it's unacceptable. Not only the intermittent outages (which has only really been about 6-7 hours total if you were clued up on the DNS change) but their lack of communication has been ridiculous. The fact they couldn't have a simple answerphone message to tell people about the DNS change and the only way people would know about it was if they could call a mobile number that was only advertised in this thread, or by visiting their frequently down website from another internet source.

I would not say NZNet are solid or reputable right now based on the performance of the last few days but all these assumptions that they are going to steal our money and run are a bit far-fetched if you ask me.

Yes, totally agree. I haven't suggested they're going to, but I realise others have. Which is a fine line between opinion and slander I suspect!

I don't think there's anything more I can add to this thread (you could argue I haven't added anything) so I'll shut up now.

. been on hold 20 mins. they must be super busy. i tried signing up online but its tricky with my address.. - using my cell phone - :P glad its not costing me!! 30 mins wait. they must be so busy
