Not an option for me as they don't have good value high data.

Orcon doesn't look bad for $240 you can get 300gb but that's still quite a step up from NZNet pricing.
im only needing around 60g but considering the long weekend. should i call tomorrow to change internet providers. or wait till next Tuesday. would the time matter?
and from the posts earlier. i wouldnt have to worry about the 200$ disconnection fee that nznet will bill me?

I don't know, personally I don't think people should be so quick to bail but then again if you have your phone with them and phone/internet both don't work I can understand why you'd want to.

If the company is having financial difficulties and a bunch of people leave then there's a much greater chance they will shut down.

I have phoned several providers. As NZNet still has some connection going (as long as your modem light is on...), they will have to make a transfer and not nstall it like a new connection. You will have to wait till after the long weekend, e.g. is going to be wednesday or thursday the earliest.

"Major Internet Outage - Wed 19th Oct - Many connections & VOIP services are downWe are working on this urgently and hope to have the problem resolved todayWe apologise for the inconvenience caused" I can also access the webmail and the ADSL usage section of the site. So it does look as though only certain connections are down.

Just went to the network status section of the website and there was this note:

Major Internet Outage Problem 18th OctThere is currently a major problem with connections affecting both bandwidth and VOIP
As a temporary work around any DSL clients can try entering our tertiary DNS server IP in their modems DNS server settings instead of being left at server assigned. The tertiary DNS IP number is 66.246.76.21 this could also be entered into any PC as a temporary fix.
Our technicians are currently working on this urgently.
We apologize to affected clients for the inconvenience caused.

The issue doesn't just affect certain connections. For a time today their BGP routes were not being advertised, this essentially disconnected NZNET them from the internet.

Considering the way they're jumping between hosting and upstream providers it's clear they have major issues.

I guess at the end of the day you're all getting what you paid for, a low cost provider that's clearly got all the heavy torrent users now.

Huge warning light that would send me scrambling for a new ISP. Despite their CEO claiming innocence in the Techday article, I can't picture multiple upstream providers dropping them without a very good reason.

Does Sahil Gupta have something to do with it?

Far out! You get what you pay for, and these guys are damn cheap for a reason. It's pretty obvious they're dodgy, unreliable and probably utter cowboys. Look at their website. Ha! Look at people's attempts to contact them (Hint: Beep beep beep). Look at the the PDF listed here earlier (you'll have to read it all, if it's hard I can help with the big words)

And you're all seriously questioning how much longer they'll be around? Have you been living in a dungeon for 10 years?

This is the sort of business a father gives his moron son, then watches him run it into the ground, bailing him out over and over again. I'd be surprised if they had more than 5 staff and I'm very surprised they're back online at all.

Seriously: Their fix for your problems before was "Change your DNS server"! Amazing! And you all just accept that as normal? No explanation, no reason for the fact their upstream keeps changing? Most ISPs don't need to change provider 3 times a week. 3 times in 5 years is a more regular timeline. A normal ISP doesn't DO that. They don't go offline for 48 hours. They don't suggest a dodgy DNS change as a fix for a total outage.

Now that said, *everyone* has outages. It's normal, it happens, it's annoying but it's a fact. But look at the way these guys handled it. Did their phones work? No. Did their website work? No.
Do you know how hard it is to setup a temporary website? One not on your network so that customers can still see it? You change your DNS records so www.nznet.co.nz points to it. It's _EASY_. Stupid easy. It would have taken ~5 minutes and it's something anyone with half a clue would do during a major outage if they had no other way of contacting their customers.
You always let your customers know, IF you care about them. It'd have cost them maybe $100 to do this. Probably only $20. Did they do it? No.

Fek.

Stop complaining and be thankful it works at all. Rejoice, in fact. That's if it does.

If you want something that's decent and works, well, these guys aren't it. If you're happy to put up with regular outages, things breaking, but paying nothing for it, well, keep up the good work.

Wow where did this tirade come from?! There aren't regular outages on NZNet this is the first once I've experienced and been with them 1 year. Any other time there has been any kind of issue their tech team has been efficient.

Obviously there's something major going on right now but their deals are nowhere near too good to be true, there are plenty of cheaper ISPs out there.

Great that you can see their website that displays a message with yesterdays date on it. Great that you are so easy to please. is that what we pay our monthly ISP fees for ? They are not the cheapest, not the most expensive. But they are a scam.
