If you are into gaming, solely or as well as STB entertainment, its probably an ok buy if the games are a step up

Wow, seriosuly, a grand. You'd wanna hope that all the features work here properly for that much.

that is the weird thing.  based on the presentation, you would think that games are quite secondary to the xbox, with TV being by far the most important part.  However, given we dont even have Netflix here, let alone cable that will work for the passthrough function, the new Xbox just seems like it is going to be a big waste of time in NZ.  so to charge MORE in NZ for a product that has hugely reduced functionality seems highly retarded.

I'd imagine there will be support for both SkyTV and Quickflix at some point, so I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

maybe, maybe not.  I have no idea how reliant the technology they have bult is on the US cable system for things like EPG etc.
We also have a weird situation in NZ where EPGs are regarded as copyright - meaning Xbox would need to get permission from every channel to use its EPG.
Microsoft will probably just stick it in the 'too hard and/or market too small' basket and ignore.

Kingy: I'd expect that price to move a little bit once prices are announced.

Any price being mentioned by retailers is pure speculation at this point (!)

given they are taking pre-orders, one would assume they would be erring on the side of caution with their pricing (i.e. pricing it on the high side of where they think it will land) since they would be forced to honour the pricing for anyone who does pre-order

Mighty Ape, Jb-hifi and Noel Leeming seem to all have the same pre-order price.

Have to say considering the industry guess of $399 was off by a $100 I'm pleasantly surprised the price is so cheap...$50 cheaper than the Xbox 360 launch price.

Now if I had only not lost my job just over a week ago I woulda been a day one at that price lol looks like I better get another job after all.

Got a release:

Microsoft Corp. today announced launch details for the highly anticipated next Xbox gaming and entertainment system. Launching in New Zealand in November 2013, Xbox One is an all-in-one entertainment system built for the 21st century living room — introducing a new world of games, music, live TV, movies, sports, apps and Skype, all personalized to your interests and accessible with the sound of your voice.

Every Xbox One system sold will include the new Xbox One console featuring a 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray player and built-in Wi-Fi, the new Kinect, one Xbox One Wireless Controller and a free 14-day trial of Xbox Live Gold for new members.

The Xbox One launch bundle will be available for NZ$749 in New Zealand.

Microsoft is also introducing a limited-edition commemorative bundle to fans that reserve the system at major retailers, available in limited quantities, while supplies last. Reserving the commemorative bundle will guarantee that you’ll be able to purchase the new system on day one.

Each commemorative bundle will include an Xbox One system that comes in premium black packaging with a limited edition Xbox One Day One wireless controller, as well as a unique commemorative Day One Achievement.

Gamers who reserve the following exclusive Xbox One Day One edition launch titles, available in limited quantities at major retailers while supplies last, will receive special bonus content:

• “Ryse: Son of Rome.5” Exclusive multiplayer map and sword with bonus attributes.
• “Forza Motorsport 5.5” Access to four cars tuned to the top of their class.
• “Kinect Sports Rivals.5” Exclusive sporting equipment that separates your Champion from the rest of the world.
• “Dead Rising 3.5” Exclusive Frank West and Chuck Greene Tribute Packs with bonus attributes.

In addition Microsoft announced that every qualifying Xbox Live Gold member will receive two free Xbox 360 game downloads per month starting July 1 until Dec. 31, 2013, including popular titles such as “Halo 3” and “Assassin’s Creed II.”

And to celebrate E3 in the month of June, Xbox Live Gold members will receive a free download of “Fable III.”

You can reserve your Day One Edition here.

The reserve link only works for people in countries where MS Store actually ships hardware, NZ not included.

Apparently major retailers will also get Day One Edition consoles, so might pay to check with whoever you plan to preorder with!

Good to know. Contacted Microsoft NZ to find out more (and why they send this out in a release).

You can go to this page to get the same information with a link to NZ retailers who actually will carry the Xbox One. Seems the short link always directs you to the US page.

A small question, I read something about games and settings stored in the cloud. Just wondering if someone would be able to clarify if this is just game data and the like or if it also includes the entire game binaries as well?
