My parents are getting a new star network installed in their new house. It has a lot of ethernet cabling to future proof it. This is what the electrician has done so far. I am wondering though whether they have used the wrong components to connect the Ethernet cables to. It looks like they have used these Hills Home Hub HTM-408S Telephone Modules to connect the ethernet cables to https://www.hills.co.nz/p/S2120#gref, so their aren't many outputs. Shouldn't they be using something like this https://www.ryve.com.au/shop/categories/network-wifi/hills-hdm-808-data-patch-module/ so there is a connector for each wire? The box also does seem quite small for what is going in it and we did comment to the electrician that it looked too small . The box contains the ONT and the main spark modem/router

I am guessing the sparkie is an older guy.. When i was one, Saw this a lot and had to rip out telephone style wiring for data etc.

Couldn't get much more wrong if you tried. On top of what @coffeebaron says the outer insulation on that cable should only stripped back 20mm or so, and the twist maintained as well. Hopefully there's enough length left so that when they have to cut a couple of feet off each cable, there's enough left to terminate it properly.

Whoever is doing that has no idea whatsoever about data cabling. Get them to stop before they wreck it for someone who does know what to do.

He is reasonably young.I guess at least it was picked up early and it can be fixed.

Those look like HDM-408 - phone modules. Used to send one phone line (or more) to different rooms.

What they want (if they must use Hills gear) is HDM-808 https://www.hills.co.nz/p/S2119#gref

They would at least fit into that cabinet.

What I linked would be ideal. Wrong cabinet type etc.. But I also wonder about that cable management, Not sure if that cabinet swings off the wall but that is a lot of excess, un-shielded cable. I'd go and grab a dynamix wall mounted cabinet and put it in the place of that if possible.

Who ever did this should be TOLD to step away from the job and keep his invoice to himself.

Why are there dedicated phone circuits (in blue) all circuits should be standard structured cabling and terminate on full four pair RJ45 (as the grey ones are).

As for the unsheathing, well thats just crazy, but that said it probably would not have a major impact on performance, but its NOT how its done.

Luckly there appears to be sufficient slack that ALL cables can be re terminated correctly. Ideally all on RJ45 modules (like the left side).

Edit, just realised they are all voice modules, no no no there should be no voice modules or at the minimum one voice module only used as a voice source distributor, but all room outlets should be on standard 4pair RJ45 modules and all room outlets terminated the same.!!

Why strip it so far back, you run the risk of damaging / nicking a strand , then have to peel it even further back.
Never seen anything like it.

Just a quick question. Can they use these Gigabit switches in the HDP, stacked on top of the other, to directly plug all the Ethernet cables coming into the cabinet. ? https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SWHNGR1160/NETGEAR-ProSAFE-GS116-16-port-Gigabit-Switch-16x-G Or are these incoming cables supposed to be connected to a patch panel first, so both would be needed? It sounds like they have been working on it today after they picked up the problem, and all the cables have now been terminated to plugs, and plugged into 3 x 16 port Netgear gigabit switches stacked on top of the other.
