Sigh, a great saga of a setup involving cancelling an old account and now ending in a completely new account number... It's bad when you can leave a company for 15 months and still know your way around their systems better than those you talk to on the phone. incoming PM Scott, though you're probably on leave ;)

Im currently on telecom total home broadband 100GB and want to switch to slingshot broadband unlimited.

IS it very easy/trouble free to do?
Do I just sign up on the slingshot site and they do it all for me or do I have to contact telecom to get them to cancel my current broadband plan etc?

Sign up with Slingshot first.
Call Telecom after the switch has completed to make sure they know you've moved away (you usually don't need to, but it's a good idea to make sure.)

Does anyone know if iTalk is supposed to be included with the $90 per month cost of naked dsl ayce? I am sure that on the final screen of my sign up on the website it said that the $11 per month iTalk 500 minute plan was free. Knew I should have taken a screen shot. Can't find anything on their site that says it though.

As I understand it, you have to call them and mention that you want the italk that comes with the NDSL plans.

It should be included automatically if you selected it when you signed up.

Else if you are getting charged for it, ie credit to offset the charge isn't getting applied, call in and they should be able to sort you out.

Yeah I ported a number over from VFX to iTalk when I changed over so I definately selected that option. I can remember on the web sign up summary at the end it showed the $11 iTalk and then immediately below it had an $11 credit so the total monthly bill came to $90. I got my first invoice on Saturday and it had $90 for ndsl and an extra $11 for iTalk. Will have to call them anyway cause I can't get italk to work with my router so will ask about it then.

Got moved to this plan this morning! ADSL syncs are much higher than they were on Telecom, but do these figures look normal?

and on speedtest.slingshot.co.nz:

Download Speed: 6144 kps (768 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 993 kps (124.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Packet Loss: 0 %
Test Server: nz-akl

Shouldn't those figures to Slingshot's own network be a lot higher since I'm syncing at more than twice that rate?

Looking at the sync speed,modem definitely supports ADSL2+. I won't rely too much on the sync speed, my sync speed is always over 21000Kbps but actual speed varies a lot on this plan depending on the time of day. Speedtest result sometime shows 2000Kbps and sometimes it shows as high as 22000Kbps but actual download speeds have been pretty consistent at 1.9Mbps to 2.4Mbps. Overall, it is a good plan but sppeds are definitely slow during the day time, even browsing is slow sometimes.

I've been a slingshot customer for a 4 years. Throughout that time I've usually been on one of the top plans, pretty consistently dropping some serious coin on data blocks. I've put up with some frankly terrible performance (during the 3 monthly bandwidth review days) but had periods of excellent reliability and customer service.

Based on this thread I decided to change my plan from the Elite pack 40gb + home line.

Apparently if I would like to change to the naked unlimited plan I need to pay $25 for my tolls, $25 for my home line and $150 for my existing internet connection in early disconnection fees. As well as paying $90 a month.

Does it strike anybody else as slightly crazy that I get heavily penalised for being an existing, loyal customer? or that I have to pay $30 more for exactly the same service? and that I have to wait until the end of my existing billing cycle to change over? Or that I'm still not on ADSL2 despite being on 'the better network'?

ISP's in NZ have long made it more attractive to jump ship to different providers every year or two rather than actually looking after existing customer base. It's retarded.
