Hey,

Basically im in a flat with two sky decoders throughout the house, I found we had a freeview decoder in the cupboard yesterday, I was wanting to know if I got my subscription to sky cancelled, could I replace my sky unit with my newly found freeview decoder? Would it still run? Anything else I should know, Oh by the way, I have unplugged the sky to test the freeview decoder to see if the decoder worked and it does.

Yes it will work - we have a Sky subscription and Freeview running off the same satellite dish here

No problem. I have a Freeview decoder plugged into an antenna socket intended for Sky. (Sky and Freeview use the same satellite).

Note that in some cases Sky may claim in the event of a fault with the Sky unit, that the connection of a Sky and Freeview box to the same satellite may be the source of the fault.

Note that one of the units will be required to power the LNB - that's not a problem until the unit powering the LNB is switched off / removed.

In essence, ensure the unit powering the LNB is not switched off.

I have a Satellite box and approved freeview receiver cabled in series - the Satellite box first, and i cannot switch that off (I can put it in standby mode) otherwise the freeview unit receives no signal.

(Hope that makes sense!)

If you insert a splitter before the set top boxes then they can each independently power the lnb, at any time. You just set both boxes to power the lnb and the diodes in the splitter ensure that only one of the boxes power the lnb at any one time, and that the power doesn't head back to damage the other box.
