dafman:
RIP N7. You burned brightly, and left us too soon.
bwahahahahaha, that was the problem it did burn brightly :P
Wonder if the telcos here will be sending out fireproof return boxes like Samsung are doing in the US?
The box also includes specific instructions to only transport it by ground and sea; it is "forbidden" from being taken on an aircraft. Gloves are included in the return kit as well, as Samsung says that some people may be irritated by directed contact with the ceramic fiber lining.
I wonder if people missed the sarcasm in the "Apple will be delighted" comment...

Its a pretty bad look for Samsung.
They have also had issues with washing machines catching fire - and its been more than one model.
Doesnt say a lot for quality control and testing.
The koreans are like the japanese in respect of it being a pretty shameful situation for the company - heads will roll I expect.
Just buy a Note 5 if you need a note - they seem to build/sell previous models overlapping with new ones for a while. Save quite a few dollars as well.

I've just swapped out for the S7 Edge and it feels like a step backwards. Well, lets face it, it is. But probably the best of what is a mediocre bunch of options at the moment. Sadly Spark did not have a Note 5 as I would have taken that.
The smart switch took about 40 minutes to transfer everything across, BUT stupid me, it looks like I lost all my notes!! I did not consider for a moment that there would be a lack of the Samsung Note software.
Now here is the real killer. Currently charging on the fast wireless cradle and the phone is so HOT. I never experienced that with the Note 7. Life seems a little quirky at times. Roll on the Note 8.
For those of us who contracted with with Spark or another teleco to buy our Note 7, is it at all possible to have this cancelled without penalty? From their wording, all payments for the device itself, made before being returned should be refunded (on account, thankfully I have internet with them to make use of the credit).
I only went on contract in order to buy the phone, as the $300 discount and plan worked out better for me than buying outright at the time. Now that the phone is a lost cause and there is no suitable replacement for me, I'm left with a phone contract I don't need.
Back in Australia it was easier to argue this point, but it seems that Spark have made the phone a very separate item from the phone contract itself, despite it clearly being tied into having a contract with them. Is there anything in the Consumers Gaurantees Act here that protects customers from this situation? I'm unfamiliar with our rights here in NZ and expecting an argument or flat out loss on this point. Anyone here with prior experience of this?

Have you talked to spark?

I am hoping the next major software update will bring in more in-line with the note7.
You need to remember that the note 7 is running the new interface that has not been released for the s7 edge (because samsung did not want to do that because they wanted sales of the note 7 to be better and for people to upgrade again).
No one knows when the update will be however as it's part of the android n upgrade.
The next S series flagship (S8) is just 4 months away
So I dont see samsung putting in too much effort in making S7 & Edge more tempting for customers to get than it already is
S7 Edge is basically the same specs as Note 7 minus 0.2 inches and minus the S-Pen
So customers who still want to stick with Samsung will just get the S7 Edge as the next best thing
i just got back from Spark and dropped off my Note 7. picked up a iPhone 6S Plus.
can someone please tell me where the back button is and the LED notification light? oh wait, bugger :(

Yes, I have. They won't budge on the contract. I'd like to argue the point if possible, that's why I'm asking here and trying to look up what can be done.
@JasonParis might be able to help you on this.
I would not be overly happy if i was locked into a contract and had to return the phone
kornflake: I see spark will give an account credit, any chance of a cash refund instead?
Does potential to catch fire qualify as a 'major defect' per the CGA?
If yes then the buyer can expect a refund.

Sounds like the same Spark that increased the price of my fixed price broadband during the contract period.
However, when sorting out a Spark billing problem earlier this year, I found some great help via this forum. So keep fingers crossed.
Keep the thread updated with your progress, will be interesting to see how it pans out.
