What happens with a Telecom SIM? How old is the 2D SIM?

You can't trust those IMEI check sites; my unlocked Telecom iPhone shows up as locked to Telecom even though it happily accepts a 2D SIM.

product version:
product sold by: TELECOM NEW ZEALAND LTD
coverage status: Apple Limited Warranty
coverage end date: 12/11/13
purchase date: 12/12/12
purchased in: New Zealand
mac address: 40b39517d268
bluetooth mac address: 403:95:172:69
country code: ()

last activation date: 01-01-1970 01:00:00

That suggests it is locked to telecom, which is weird, but it also says it has never been activated, which is also pretty weird.

So once its activated using the Telecom SIM, can you place a Skinny/2D/Vodafone SIM in there and see if its works?

Try activating with a Telecom SiM.

If I remember correctly sometimes Apple sends replacement devices with wrong locks. You might check with Apple again.

Try putting it into DFU mode and restoring it with itunes.

There should be lots of youtube tutorials on this.

Salim,

I would contact skinny.
It seems to me it would be locked to skinny.

Cheers

Yes, Skinny sells iPhone 5 now: http://www.skinny.co.nz/2789_EN-Buy-Browse_iPhone.htm

So it is potentially legitimately locked to Telecom NZ if bought from them.

Though I don't know why, since Skinny isn't even subsidising them.

I'm 99% sure the skinny sold iPhone isn't locked since its the same network ID as Telecom. The problem is most of Telecom is on holiday (including me)

What happens if you take the phone into a Telecom store.

I haven't looked up your IMEI as my wife has barred me from my computer...

Perhaps try replying with proper grammar and not in txt speak, then people might understand what you're saying.

Come on cut them some slack.  They are obviously not a native speaker and it does seem to be a legitimate problem.

Their writing, while not grammatically correct is still very readable.
