It's right there in the wording - "You've got a few options for getting fibre.... Some of these might not work at your home". In this particular case, taking out the copper cable and replacing it will not work at your home as Enable have no right of access over the Chorus duct to do so. If you were in an area serviced by Chorus fibre, this would most certainly be an option.

The screen grab above is necessarily generalised. To state what specific options are available in any given area would be so wordy and time consuming as to be ineffective. We can't even be specific about the greater Christchurch area as some subdivisions in Christchurch have been reticulated for fibre by Chorus through individual agreements with subdivision developers and therefore Chorus is the fibre provider in these limited areas of Christchurch. Unfortunately the OP's location is not one of these.

Chorus is the First provider of fiber followed be Enable in those areas generally as Enable have also put fiber in along side of Chorus (See waste of infrastructure.....)

I had the same situation. Also down a shared drive in Christchurch and our neighbours didn't want their driveway trenched.

Enable said they wouldn't use the existing copper ducting as that was owned by Chorus. They wouldn't go down the back of the neighbours property (which the neighbours would have preferred) because we didn't have right of way there. They wouldn't take it from a different street that our property abuts because the termination point had already been put outside our driveway.

Eventually neighbours gave consent for the fibre to go down a 30cm wide strip of garden next to the drive as per Enable's scope. Then Enable's contractors went and dug up the neighbours drive anyway. So now we are trying to get Enable to fix the mess they made of neighbours drive.

I would recommend ensuring everything is well detailed and agreed in writing (and take plenty of photos) before work commences.

Maybe contact Chorus to see if you can get written permission to use the duct.

Its a shame that the builder/sparkie/data cabling didn't install a second conduit for fibre if this is a recently built property. I thought this would have been the norm.

I don't think that Chorus would give permission to use their duct. It would be difficult trying to access it if there was a fault that needed physical investigation, I would imagine.

I just rang ultra fast and they don't have that same issue they just ring chorus and say going use their ducting to save cost of retrenching and frustration . Glad I don't live in a enable area

Come to think of it, down the road, the lead in on the street was moved to the other side of the driveway for someone's fibre install so they didnt have to cut the driveway (enable area). Maybe ask the installers if they can do that is that makes any difference to the install?

Yes they did go to the other side of the driveway (under the footpath) for our install also.
