Hi guys. I have been a long time Actrix Cyberjet customer, and I am happy with them. However, in the last 2 months, I  ran into the same problem 3 times.

The problem is as follows. My internet connection dies. When I check the modem setup, it shows that I am connected to the ADSL line (the line is quite stable - the sync speed is 11 Mbps, the SNR is around 15). But when I run the diagnostic tool, it tells me that it has failed to connect to the PPP server of Actrix. Turning the modem off and on or resetting it to factory defaults does not help. Also, I am absolutely sure that I have typed up my user name and password correctly.

I have contacted the Actrix helpedsk many times. They tell me that they don't even see my computer trying to authenticate. The first two times they reset something at their end, and this fixed it temporarily (for a couple of weeks). But then it happens all over again.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? What could be wrong? I am quite sure that the fault is not at my end. Could it be the ISP? Or is possible that the exchange is screwed up?

I live in Kelburn, Wellington (sorry, don't know what my exchange is). My modem is Dynalink RTA1320 (flashed to the latest firmware).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Possible modem has gone ?
Try to borrow a modem from a friend to confirm this!

There is a known issues with PPP dropping out and this maybe what your are experiencing. Telecom are working on a firmware upgrade to resolve it, but does mean this may re-occur a couple of times yet. Read more on link below (Slingshot forum, but applicable to all ADSL2+ via Telecom's network).

OK, thanks for the info. This PPP droput issue seems to affect only certain modems, right? I will try a different one.

Hmmm, that was weird. I installed an old DSE internal modem (ADSL1). With that one I managed to authenticate successfully. Then I plugged the cable back in my RTA1320 and it worked!
