Recently replaced a 10yr old D-Link NAS (fried by lightening!) with Synology ds220j. Restored all the data using external backups to new NAS & there's no problem accessing that data with (ethernet) wired or wireless devices, but on trying to use the Blu-ray player (also connected by ethernet) to access movies (which is what we do for the big screen/sound system in Family room) it asks for my CIFS login & PW. Which simply doesn't work - and the Blu-ray player defaults back to the home screen. I'm an old user: admittedly absolutely NOT a geek, but I just can't figure out why it's not working, or what I'm doing wrong. It may be that the Blu-ray (BX-580) is not compatible with the new NAS. But any advice/help would be much appreciated!
BTW the login details & PW that I'm using are 100% correct ;-). Thanks all.

File Services/SMB/Advanced Settings/Others Tab/Enable NTLMv1 authentication.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

In addition to what Spyware has said above, you may need to enable the minimum SMB protocol level to be SMB1 if the Blu-ray player is asking for a CIFS connection.

If you simply can't get the CIFS login to work, does the Blu-ray player support DLNA connections? If so, you could install Synology Media Server and then look for your content via DLNA.

@srdt its probably worth better understanding what you just did and the security implications of it. File sharing in the Windows world uses a protocol call SMB, of which there are three versions. My guess is your Blu-ray player only supports v1, which is disabled by default on your NAS (for good reason).

Most modern NAS's will disable SMB1 by default as its generally considered insecure and obsolete. By enabling it on your NAS you have decreased your security. It's probably worth doing a bit of research around SMB1 and deciding if tis a risk you're willing to take.

Many thanks P. I appreciate your advice. We only use the NAS for home use and never access it remotely. And I've checked just now to ensure that Synology Quick Connect is disabled. I've always thought that having the convenience of remote access is not worth the risk - hence why we've also never used cloud services. Thanks again.

Yes apologies @srdt I should have provided more background to you regarding dropping the allowable SMB protocol down to V1, but for internal use only you should be fine.
